In fairness Scruffy, folks like us (including you and I) probably don't believe the hunger statistics in this country anyway, so why should we take this seriously

I work for a food pantry in New Orleans East. The trends I am seeing has me much much more afraid of the economic impact this shutdown is having than the virus itself.

Well if you weigh 150 lbs at 10 years old, you probably do have hunger issues if you can't eat three times what a normal 10 year old eats on a regular basis.

We’ll survive this, but I’m very concerned over how many in the third world will starve because of this. I really don’t think I’m overselling this.

1 in 4 in the US is definitely overblown, but there will be a significant impact.
Post-2008 statistics show rises in homelessness in major cities of up to 40%.
People need to be shown the impacts of their actions.

Add to it that China owns a large chunk of their farmland and factories down there. I really think down there we are about to see the biggest mass suffering in my lifetime (30s).
