For the docs here, very random question BUT those on a transplant list -- how is this affecting them?

Meaning are there vents available for car accident victims that the heart/other organs may be in good condition but need to be kept alive for organ donation (provided they're a donor)? I realize this may not be all that many cases and I'm not sure what made me even think of this.

And knowing that "elective" surgeries aren't being done, would a transplant even be considered?

Yes I know it's beyond a random question but a local person had a heart transplant right before Christmas last year and it just made me wonder.

Obesity identified as key factor in New Orleans excessive impact LINK

quote:

“We had a case where a mom was already in the ICU and the daughter, who was obese, came in,” she said. “The daughter asked staff to wheel her by her mom’s room so she could say goodbye before she herself was intubated. We knew the mother was going to pass away.”

Both patients suffered from obesity.

"The numbers today are going to be jarring," @LouisianaGov says. "And i just wanted to kind of prepare people, put it into context.”

@LouisianaGov is on New Orleans radio preparing people for what he expects to be the largest number of new confirmed coronavirus cases yet. But he says this is beecause of a backlog in private labs that is just now breaking through. Many new positives are older.

I wonder if this is the case for most daily reported positives. When Dallas opened their two drive through testing center it took 4+ days to get the results back.

Right here bro. Oxygen saturation at 93 which is much better than it was in the beginning. Haven't even seen the doctor today. They just came and got blood to check my blood gases for actual blood oxygen levels so maybe he is waiting for those results. No more brown shite in an iv bag so that's good. I honestly feel better than I have at any time since being stuck here. I hear the nurses talking about folks stuck upstairs in ICU but can't make out everything because they either shut up or try to whisper to where I can't hear them. I have been asking questions just out of curiosity but they always just side step them and last night's nurse told me it is against their policy to talk about covid patients.

The technician that did my CT scan called it the Chinese flu. I have heard that term a lot up here actually. The staff here look stressed out and irritated over the last couple days. It may just be my dumb arse not being able to read people though. I have no idea how many covid patients are admitted here just that I am not the only one. If they would actually let the cafeteria ladies bring my tray to me I would ask one of them but the nurse always brings me my food.

I still very much really appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers. Having a cheering section really did help my condition improve and my doctor said as much himself. Thank you very much for asking. It shouldn't be long now.

WOW. I don't see my homes name on the list -- we had one negative test and are waiting on the result for another. Not sure what region we're in but I don't see our name or any others from around us so ..

Well good for him for saying that many of the + are older and not just letting the increase hang there just as a number.

Yep. They were bad but he thinks it was from years of smoking. He couldn't rule out the virus causing some of the damage but he said he just wanted the scan to show whether or not they were dire. Said I had smokers lungs which I expected so I took the news well. I checked in last week. I feel like I have been here a month. My days kind of just run together. Grabbing a few hours of sleep here and there. Would be board out of mind if not for tiger droppings and sec rant.

He said I am having irregularities show up on ekgs so they are keeping an eye on that. Not sure that it is even connected to the virus though. He said at my rate of improvement I shouldn't be here a whole heck of a lot longer.

Backlog is getting worse. Someone I know tested today and they won’t get a result for 9 days.

What’s the fricking point then?

That is freaking nuts bro. I thought they had drive by testing and you could know in either 45 mins or no more than a few hours. Thought I had read that.
