It is crushing the older population.
Too many are focusing on deaths. A very significant percentage of people in critical care are not even close to being considered "old".

This
When you have people in their 30s and 40s (some that have NO other medical conditions) on vents with this....that’s really scary.

And a significant portion of those who are hospitalized and recover do so with scarred up lungs.

Ok, well that is still a significant statistic. Are deaths not the ultimate thing we are trying to prevent here?
Great, so critical care is working for people under 60?
You can get really sick still if you're under 60? Ok well there's a great chance you'll live.

Exactly. So they may be forever impacted health wise from this.

Assuming they have enough vents for you to be on when you get it.

I wonder if we are headed towards a grounding of commercial airliners at some point?

Really appears that Italy does for most people 60 and under.

I think it's too early to say. Someone posted up thread a message from an Ochsner doc that said they haven't been able to take people off of vents once they get on one.

I’m honestly surprised we haven’t grounded everything yet
I mean if it’s as bad as they say, that should be one of the first things to happen, no?

You will see an increase in deaths if there aren't enough ventilators and hospital beds to go around. People still get sick of other things during a pandemic. This is whole point of "flattening the curve."

Italy has seen an increase in deaths, but just not from people under 60

Is there a good source for the Italy COVID data?

What country is driving the spike in nCFR?

Yea, one has to wonder what good are all these local restrictions if people are still flying all over the place? However, I'm not advocating for grounding air travel and just making an observation.

You can't look at it so narrowly. Why are people under 60 surviving? Many are because hospitals are forced to make a choice on who gets put on a ventilator. This contributes to the high percentage of deaths of the aged. Not that many wouldn't die from COVID-19 but many don't stand a chance if they can't get on a ventilator because the choice was made to put a younger person on it.

Probably a combo of things mostly related to data gathering and not a sign of a concerning spike in CFR. Countries with limited testing that are reporting deaths are probably skewing the data. Also, China continues to report deaths but aren't "finding" any new cases. Is the CFR really going up in China or are they just not testing for new cases anymore?
