There are millions of people in the USA who have had or are currently infected. The serious infection and mortality rate are actually going to end up being really low.
Still next week our medical system will get overwhelmed in some places and a bunch of people with underlying conditions who would have died in the next 5 years will die due to rationing of care. Some young people will die too.
We will have another bump in infections when they open up society a month or so, but by then we Hopefully have a therapy that allows the health care system to manage the caseload.

Lmao!!!! So you’re expecting this to grow in the millions per day at the tail end? Like China? Why is a less densely populated nation 30x more susceptible than a larger more poor nation?
Also, your incompetence statement.... so we’re incompetent because this virus is mostly harmless and asymptomatic to most in our population yet the people in charge can wreck our economy shut everything down and not be incompetent? Man you doomsday ppl are an absolute disgrace

The scary thing about the Facebook party is it holds no natural boundaries and can spread bad ideas from idiot to idiot across the country in hours. R0 of millions if someone comes up with a bad idea that goes viral.

For future reference, tell us now what the line for big deal is.

50,000?
100,000?
If we as a country never get to the proverbial big deal body count, is is because of or in spite of everything we’re currently doing?
Everyone recognizes this is a massive if not completely unprecedented blow to the economy.
But left to its own devices, the virus killing multiple millions of people over a six month period and devastating our health care system would also be a massive and unprecedented blow to the economy, to say nothing of the loss of life......
For future reference, tell us now what the line for big deal is.

Italians in certain regions seem to have a much harder time with this and not just elderly. There are handfuls of younger people with the same in this country and not all have underlying conditions.
About 10 minutes after I posted this I saw a story about a single family that had 4 coronavirus deaths in New Jersey.
They are of Italian heritage.

Makes you wonder how much they’re hyping this virus up. The toilet paper run happened, yet no governing entity told people to go out and buy it for a respiratory virus.

But what empirical evidence is there of this happening? Even in itay, it isnt happening. If it was so deadly, there should be mountains of dead in Beijing visible from space.

I did, too. And same. Mine was brought on by my freight-train-smoking mother.
But I do have sleep apnea. Not overweight, tho; I’m a bit of an anomaly. I have read that positive airway pressure was one of the hospital treatments for this, so wondering if I should continue using my CPAP should I develop symptoms at any point? I assume yes.

The post did say if we had let it run unchecked it would certainly kill a lot more people which I think is absolutely true. Look at the actions that China took to slow the outbreak and it is finally now coming to a potential end (if you believe the numbers). Italy too has put in place a nationwide lock down to help slow the spread. Until we get a vaccine though we'll be dealing with this for months, every time a nation lifts its restrictions I'm sure we'll see another spike in cases.

Why not order total quarantine for 65 and older, as well as anyone with compromised immune system, and then require everyone else to wear particle/surgical mask outside the home so that they keep their germs to themselves.
