Where would the masks come from? We're seeing now that health care workers are already running low for themselves and you want to hand them out to every American?

Countries like India are letting it run unchecked, no mountains of dead as far as I've seen indicated. Same for mexico, south america, etc.
I think the vaccine will be far more of a placebo than an actual solution, which is perfectly fine with me. The flu vaccine showed poor efficacy this season, and people are still getting h1n1 annually despite a vaccine being out.
I just hope the message when the smoke clears is that we overreacted, not that we did the right thing. I dont want to shut down the economy again for what I feel like is our decade nasty flu bug that we get every decade.

What I can’t understand is how you rationalize trump destroying his one saving grace (a booming economy) if this is all a nothing burger. You don’t think he would be looking at this with the most critical eye and be screaming fake news?
Whenever I post the link to genetic studies showing the timeline of how the virus travelled from China around the world all I get is crickets. The virus wasn’t here in November and there aren’t millions in the country with it despite all the anecdotal stories. Keep your head in the sand.

I think your problem is you don’t understandan Epidemiology curve. I won’t expect to see mountains of bodies right now, the pandemic is just starting. It’s probably infected less than 1% of the world. Can you think of any reason it would stop spreading other than wishful thinking?

They should add about 50k to the numbers minimum of who've had the virus in the country prior to any testings and survived.

By what measure?
Do you think South Korea missed a lot of positive tests? If anything their tests have been shown to have false positives (which isn’t that bad)
Even with most of their infected being younger and female the mortality rate is sitting around 1%. Their hospitals were being over run and a few patients died waiting to be seen before they locked everything down to gain control.

So you are saying they missed a bunch of patients with the disease but it mysteriously just stopped spreading in Daegu?

This is the only way they were able to contain it in Daegu. Intense testing and isolation of all patients. But you say we should do the opposite and expect the same results?

I really don't think that's true. South Korea has been able to lift restrictions because they can test everyone that they need to test. When the new Abbott and Roche systems are running at full capacity next week, we'll make some progress toward that. (Abbott is making a million test kits each week for the US and Roche is making 400,000.)
We're also going to get some help, I believe, from warmer weather. I think that it's pretty obvious now that the virus spreads much more rapidly in cold, dry air.
We're going to be in much, much better shape by mid-April. Our hospitals and ICUs will still be packed, but the tide will have turned, and some restrictions will be able to be loosened.
In the meantime, until we get more help from testing and warmer weather, we need still more restrictions. New Orleans should have had a shelter-in-place order a week ago.

So, I pass by a methadone clinic on my way to work everyday and this morning there were probably 50 people outside and one of the workers (I guess) was going down the line with a clipboard and and a forehead thermometer 
.
There is going to be a ton of dopesick junkies if they end up shutting that place down. I do wonder if places like that would fall under pharmacies? I'm pretty sure they have to have a pharmacist on-site to dispense the methadone.

They had to have missed a lot. They tested about half a percent of their population.
