No idea if true, but it gives some numbers to start with.
I don't really know the difference between a minimal disruption with simple safeguards approach and the full bore 6 month lockdown approach - but 500k seems like a reasonable number.
Taking the 40k deaths per 1% unemployment at face value. At an 18% unemployment rate (15% change) we are talking about a breakeven tradeoff.
Other question is can we reduce the impact with a surge in funding for medical care/facilities?

BTW some studies suggest that the majority of those 40K are elderly because their unemployed family no longer has funding to help support them through medically troubling times. By that definition, and if the numbers are true, we are literally talking about a complete trade-off considering the group that Whaun Flu is most dangerous to.

Good question and I would be interested to see if this has been talked about by the ones making the desicions.

I hope that our healthcare system gets a reality check. Between sheer lack of testing capacity, the potential for hospitals to be overrun and not able to extend care as needed, etc, we are seeing the chinks in the armor. If this were truly BAD bad, we'd be in deep doodoo. We're not out of the woods, but this virus could certainly be much worse than it is. If ebola were this contagious..........God help us.

I live on a golf course. Balls are already laid out. I’m on the range plan. Can walk up. Hit. Walk back to my house. And never come within 100 ft of someone.
