You don’t recognize the negatives of excess information, do you?
quote:
Information overload (also known as infobesity,[1] infoxication,[2] information anxiety,[3] and information explosion[4]) is the difficulty in understanding an issue and effectively making decisions when one has too much information about that issue.[5] Generally, the term is associated with the excessive quantity of daily information.
quote:Our society is WAY passed this point.
Information overload occurs when the amount of input to a system exceeds its processing capacity. Decision makers have fairly limited cognitive processing capacity. Consequently, when information overload occurs, it is likely that a reduction in decision quality will occur.
quote:We are now on a daily quest to determine if anything has changed or developed, and if you are away from your information source for too long, you become anxious about missing something important.
INFORMATION ANXIETY is produced by the ever-widening gap between what we understand and what we think we should understand. Information anxiety is the black hole between data and knowledge. It happens when information doesn’t tell us what we want or need to know.
All this has done has caused everyone to become irrationally fearful, which has resulted in our leaders having to respond, which has thus resulted in everyone becoming even more irrationally fearful.
It is nothing but a loop that we are feeding into and off of.
We have people posting tweets as factual information.
You are updated with every single infection or death.
What purpose does any of it serve?
And you can’t say that it makes you less anxious, because we all know that isn’t true.
Anything positive is immediately countered with something negative, and we all know the negative info is what keeps bringing people back.

It is not serious until it happens to them or theirs.

Not to be rude, but the infected man in that picture appears to be very obese
Also, his wife(not overweight) and son seem to have it and are doing fine
Maybe one good thing this virus will cause is people seem to now actually be aware that being healthy and treating their body well is important.

As I've posted many times, this is a self fulfilling prophecy.
And this thread has become overwhelmed with negative info and dismissed immediately if it's something positive.

BREAKING: Italy reports 3,590 new cases and 368 new deaths, raising total to 24,747 cases and 1,809 dead
Jesus. During China's peak did they have that high of a single day death total?

Total cases worldwide surpass China. However, does anyone really believe that China has only generated 31 new cases in the past two days?
China’s numbers have always lagged slightly behind whatever action they took. Soon as they sent people back to work thier cases and deaths dropped like a rock.

Anecdotal cases do not represent the norm. This cannot be stated enough. It sucks for this poor guy, but the majority of people have minimal symptoms. This guy's story is one of many.

People do not came back to this thread for positive info.
That is a factual societal concept.
“No news is good news”
We see it all the time with the media. The vast majority is negative because fear and negativity sells.
If it was good news, no one would watch or read it.
I’ll make a prediction for this thread.
Once we start seeing everything moving positively, this thread will fall off the front page.

I think what everyone presumed is being confirmed by the Italian numbers, it was way worse in China than reported and probably still is.
ETA: By worse, I mean more widespread and not necessarily a higher percentage of people dying.

You do not sticky overreactions and fear mongering. While I grant you there is valid information here, it is also a cesspool of misinformation, scare tactics and attention whores.

this will be the longest thread in tigerdroppings history
Long ways to go and this thread will die out soon. Either the virus will run out of steam or as predicted here we will all be dead.

Can you highlight some of these post that aren't obvious troll post?

Scruffy, to be fair we aren't seeing much in the way of positive news. I'd certainly like to see some.

Positive Story
3 nba players got the virus as felt good enough to play 3 days later
63 year old Tom Hanks And Rita Wilson have the virus and it’s extremely mild
There is some positive anecdotal cases, that if I made a separate thread for people would tell me to eat shite and die and get my head out the sand

Good lord. I hope your wife the doctor is more compassionate than you. Some people have health conditions that are completely out of their control. You know everything about this guy based on a headshot picture?

I simply said that could be a positive from this, that taking care of yourself is more than just something to do to look good in clothes etc etc There is nothing wrong or callous with saying that

Here is some:
The CFR is trending down steadily.
You know what I noticed immediately after that though?
The immediate responses were along the lines of “that isn’t accurate” or “the average length of time before death is 18 days”, a concept that is completely unproven and happens to be the high end of the 2-18 day range people have been spouting.
Anything that is positive, but deemed unconfirmed, is frowned upon, but anything that is negative, unconfirmed or not, is met with “this is interesting and scary”.
Or there is the fact that we are nearing 40,000 tests at this point, which is great news, but only met with negativity that it wasn’t started earlier.
This has become an Ouroboros situation.
People just feeding off of their own fear.
And, trust me, it is not healthy IN ANY WAY, no matter how anyone on here tries to spin it.
Here are my actual recommendations for this situation.
1. Set aside 1 hour of reading about the situation nightly. That is it.
2. Get a hobby and focus on it. Read a new book. Anything.
You will miss absolutely zero critical information.
