Shortages and how to deal with them
For those of you in healthcare, there is some valuable info and additional links to CDC suggested substitutes.

Reads like a Facebook post to me along the likes of “here is what a nurse said to do for blah blah blah”
Besides, of course young patients could be affected. The key word is could. Not to be a “muh flu” guy, but even t he flu puts young patients in the grave or icu sometimes. The fact remains it’s less likely than most things we do in daily life. Of course, I’m not saying we should not take these precautions to flatten the curve, keep our elderly loved ones safe, etc.

Oh that was a tweet
I thought that guy was saying he knew someone in the ICU. Whoever wrote that had a decent medical background. What a piece of shite.

I agree--this info does not seem accurate and has been attributed to many sources. Please do not post firsthand accounts unless you are sure of the source.

I’ve seen this story forwarded around. As a Seattle MD caring for patients with #COVID19, I am skeptical of it, though there are elements of truth. It’s from an anonymous source. I worry about inflammatory misinformation.
Better sources: @seattletimes @WHO @ScottGottliebMD"

Twitter is such a cesspool. Obviously someone with medical knowledge wrote that tweet but then interspersed non-technical jargon just for effect. I'm sure it will pop up again at the next hotspot.

So more misinformation and fear mongering...

I go back on call at 0700. I was told they have triaged and gotten all possible pts discharged that can be. We are designating a med surg floor as the Covid floor and have gotten a 12 bed ICU cobbled together in our outpt surgery center. We have rainy storms for the next 10 days though so tents outside may be problematic. Seeing the hospital quickly shift gears makes me feel better. We are unsure how bad staffing will be impacted with school closures as well and our admission rate is higher this week than last already. I do have a concern that sounds outlandish but I can't find the info...We have declared a national emergency now, when I go in is there a chance I could be stuck? Can they legally make me stay there indefinitely if they need staff?

No joke. There aren’t any inconsistencies in it. It’s a well crafted story of a worse case scenario that is very specific. There are some sick people out there.

To think that the person that wrote that is possibly an MD or someone in the medical community is frightening.

That’s a good question. I would assume it’s somewhat like hurricane call here in Louisiana. We have team A and team B. Team B will relieve Team A after a certain period of time. However, there really is no long term plan. I don’t think it makes any sense for you to be there indefinitely. That’s not good for anyone.
Hang in there. Remember you are the tip of the spear and it will seem overwhelming and never ending but for every patient you treat there are 9 others out there that are perfectly fine.

Ohio up to 26 confirmed today.
They also are asking dentists and veterinarians for their supplies of both N95 and surgical masks as they are in such short supply. They said they were asking today, but implied it could become an order next week. As you can imagine, this doesn't sit very well as it would virtually cause both to have to shut down. Most vets around here haven't been able to get surgical masks for months and have been rationing and reusing them. They don't really have any need for N95 masks.
The health director said all of these measures are to deal with a 2 week surge, but in the same press conference the governor said there was no timetable.
It seems like Ohio is a bit ahead of other states with their actions but I would expect other states will follow their lead. That seems to be the pattern so far. They are going to push to far on one of these.

#breaking 70-year-old Japanese man — a Diamond Princess passenger who tested negative — has now tested positive AGAIN. He was hospitalized on Feb 14, tested negative on March 2 & went home. On March 14, he had a high temperature & was re-tested and diagnosed positive a 2nd time.

Our contract specifically lays out that in the event of any municipal declared health emergency (city, county, state or federal)that the contract is suspended. I don't think they will keep me there indefinitely but I am concerned they will force me to work daily instead of my scheduled days. I am also scared they can force 16 hour shifts. Just not sure what to expect.
