Have there been any COVID-19 cases in BR?
Our daycare is not closing yet and my wife and I need to decide whether or not to keep our kid at home until they do close. At this point I feel like it's probably ok in BR, and neither myself nor my wife will be off. But I also don't want to contribute to the spread so I find myself in a moral dilemma

That’s not true. I have to take vitamin d supplements and I def. get more than 10 minutes of sun a day esp on weekends

I have Hashimotos Thyroiditis, an autoimmune condition. Low vitamin D levels are often associated with it, so I take a lot because my thyroid will continue to degrade over time

Do y'all think airlines/airports will shut down at any point?

I’m not sure if this is accurate, but I always heard that a person can get enough vitamin D by being in the sunshine with face and forearms exposed for 10 minutes a day.
That’s probably true for some people but there is a percentage of people who can still be low despite some sun exposure.

Currently there are 0.000708% of the US population infected with Coronavirus.
I am hearing these numbers might increase to 0.000718% in just a few days!!!

Not yet. And it's very unlikely that your kid will get the virus at a daycare and then give it to you.
That's because kids have incredibly mild symptoms when they get the disease, which means that they don't cough much or at all, which means that they don't spread much virus.
It's also worth noting the official joint report of the World Health Organization after their analysis of the outbreak in China, in which they examined over 40,000 total cases of the virus. I quote:
quote:
The Joint Mission learned that infected children have largely been identified through contact tracing in households of adults. Of note, people interviewed by the Joint Mission Team could not recall episodes in which transmission occurred from a child to an adult.

So, for most of the kids that tested positive, they only tested them because someone else in the house got sick and they then tested the whole house. The kids were essentially asymptomatic.
If, out of 40,000 cases in China, there were zero deaths among young children, and no known cases of a child giving the disease to an adult, I think that we can safely conclude that kids are not a major vector for this disease.
Which means that I wouldn't pull my kid out of daycare.

Although vitamin D level didn’t effect mortality. But 94% of patients had low vitamin D. I would like to compare that to vitmain D levels in the population.
quote:
We retrospectively analyzed the data of 108 patients who had a measured serum level of 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 (25(OH)D3) at the time of diagnosis with ARDS. Vitamin D deficiency was found in 103 patients (95.4%).

Are you sure about this? I think they spread a lot of virus when infectious.
I agree they don’t get very sick.

Also raw garlic is something I am high on for immunity. I’ve seen articles popping up that “it doesn’t work” but I’m talking bigger picture here.

All it takes is one badly placed cough. Or wiping their nose with their hand and touching a common surface.
But yeah, kids don't transmit.
This response isn't aimed directly at you.

Of course, kids CAN transmit the virus. I am not saying otherwise.
I am just saying that, logically, kids cannot be a major vector of the disease based on what already know about the virus.
I am also saying that, if in 40,000 cases studied in China, there were exactly zero known instances of child-to-adult transmission, that the risk of someone's kid getting the virus at a daycare and then passing on to the parent would have to be extremely low.

What makes kids a dangerous vector is they show no or very very mild symptoms. You may never know they have it until they infect the whole household

If the kids aren't coughing, and coughing is the main way the virus spreads, then kids aren't spreading much virus
This isn’t true at all. Kids and people can be very infectious even if they aren’t coughing.
I posted a study some pages back that shows the amount of virus in someone’s throat is actually highest when they are asymptomatic in the first 5 days.

I’d rather that than the alternative.

Except that, if you study 40,000 cases of the disease and are tracing the transmission lines of infection, you would expect to see this happen at least once.
And it didn't.

How would they know this? Did they test the kids in the household?
I’d like to see what data you are basing this on

Been taking Vitamin D for a few years now. I get loads of sunshine in the Spring/Summer but winter next to no sunlight.
When I went for a yearly checkup I told the doc I get seasonal depression. He checked my Vitamin D level and it was low. I was checked in the fall too. Still outside every day.
I'm guessing most people don't get enough Vitamin D. I definitely see a difference in mood if I miss a day or two.
