re: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) ***W.H.O. DECLARES A GLOBAL PANDEMIC***

The outbreak coincided, with the celebration of the Chinese New Year. Huge numbers of Chinese ex-pats travel back home to China for this. There are direct flights to Wuhan from Milan in Italy's Lombardy region where the largest number of reported cases occurred.

It's almost like Italy's "great" healthcare infrastructure was nothing more than a bunch of walk in clinics not suited to provide more than a throat lozenge and a lollipop.
Italy's healthcare system ranks 3rd in the world overall. Most of the cases occurred in one region, the Lombardy region, and it overwhelmed the local hospitals. They had a record-breaking 200 deaths in one day.

they have more doctors and icu beds per capita than we do dude
So their hordes of doctors were unqualified then? There a several countries with fewer resources that are handling this virus much better.

Does Scruffy think one system has a higher ICU occupancy rate than the other?
I thought I had read they had similiar occupancy rates, meaning that even though we have more ICU beds per capita, they are filled at a higher rate.

Well that 3rd ranked healthcare system is getting ravaged while the UK, Denmark, Germany and several other European countries are handling this much better.
Seems to me that heralded healthcare system was a bit of an exaggeration.

Our adult ICU's are almost always near capacity.

Italy has had more cases earlier. Let's not spike that football just yet.

This practically speaking is my biggest concern here.

Italy also has a malaria outbreak in 2010 that also involved illegal immigrants from China. It spread so much because those infected were reluctant to seek out medical care due to their illegal immigrant status. Couple that with China keeping the outbreak hush hush, and you have the perfect storm for a deadly outbreak.

The virus was confirmed in both countries at the same time. All I keep seeing is how poorly the US has handled this situation.
Compared to Italy, I'd say we're doing alright in that regard.

Do you just sit around watching for posts you can make a super dumb argument to?

At least here in Baton Rouge at OLOL, there’s not a lot of ICU beds to begin with, and they stick tons of people in there, sometimes when they should be moved to hospice.

Agreed. I don't know why though we haven't stepped up testing here in the states yet.

Do you get your panties in a wad every time someone makes a point that shows this "pandemic" isn't as bad as it's being made out to be?
