The reactions (cancellations) you are seeing right now are a result of every city not knowing if they are sitting on a time bomb of cases that will overwhelm their city. It’s the result of a lack of testing. If we had adequate community testing these cities would be more confident that their ERs aren’t about to be overrun, until then they are bracing for an influx of cases and trying to mitigate that.

This shite needs to be stickied at the top of the OT

Any idea when this could ramp up? Seems like this has been said for so long ... also, did I make up that I read that supplies used to make the test kits are limited (could have been another country)??

It's the result of them being over-reactionary liberal bitches.

Untrue. I was there in 2015 and 2018 and there was no smell coming from the water. Now if there's bad flood? Yeah, there will be odor but I bet Houston stank after the floods from the hurricane.

Summer heat makes it wayyyyyyyyyyy worse. I've been in Summer and Winter and it was totally different. Fraction of the tourists in Winter as well and it was lovely.

The Summer in Venice is absolutely miserable to me and I'll never be back.

When do y’all think the U.S. will have a clearer picture on what the next 2-6 months will look like? I feel like in the next 2-4 weeks we should have a idea, but I also know nothing and just making a random guess?

While this make sense, given that the vast majority of cases have no need for the ER wouldn't we be better served managing it thru regular channels. Isolating the medically fragile patients and the elderly and let the rest not overrunning anything?

Correct.

The unknown is the biggest issue right now. These rapid tests need to be made available NOW.

There is no lack of testing. This is just a lie. There is a surplus of tests kits and anyone whose doctor says they need a test has easy access to a test.

It is going to suck for the next six weeks starting around Monday next week. Everything will be shut down. I dont think it should, but that is what will happen. After we realize we are all basically going to be fine it will slack up by mid April.

because it hasn't. Italy is always propped up as a nice country because of the Romans. It hasn't been decent since then

This just reeks of ignorance.

The term “first world” wasn’t even coined until 1945. It simply describes a democratic nation with an industrial or post-industrial economy.

Italy has been a first world country since they second that classification was created.

When the CDC pulls its head out of its arse and starts giving hard numbers about how many tests have been given, how many are hospitalized, etc that will help.

So far they have been totally useless and have largely contributed to the fear surrounding how big of a problem this is. No one knows anything, stoking fear.

I work for a hospital company, one of the largest in the world, and this isn't really true.

The tests exist, but the distribution channels at local levels have been a hot mess. Most places are hearing they're "on the way", but they haven't arrived yet.

Additionally, a lot of places with "the tests" don't have lab bandwidth to actually perform them and get results quickly.

ETA:

And quite a few of the places that have the tests haven't been reporting all of their testing results in a timely manner. So those numbers aren't matriculating to the top.

Seems like it's going to be a gradual thing. More labs are coming online everyday and the CDC just issued new guidance allowing two samples (from the same person) to be tested together which will also increase throughput and save on supplies. Dr. Gottlieb has been updating the testing situation pretty regularly on Twitter.
Dr. Gottlieb

Ohio just to received two more kits today from the CDC which adds an additionl 800-1000 total tests they can run.

Also there is a reagent shortage to deal with as the whole world is basically using this stuff at a rapid pace.
Shortage of testing reagents

I have Boston Red Sox tickets for April 8th. I’m praying this won’t affect my plans.
