CNBC has a lab Corp rep saying that they are running tests — said if md feels test warranted they’ll run it. Not sure what area she’s from. Just said all states can send samples to lab Corp.
Lab Corp just launched their test in the US on Thursday and Quest has a test to that they started offering today. They did this because they have been hounded by doctors due to the incompetence and/or willfull negligence of the CDC with respect to the avilability of testing.

That is definitely how Ohio is doing it. They have the state lab which is reserved for high risk patients, then outsourcing other testing to Labcorp or Quest. It seems like the information is not getting filtered down to the people that need. This has really exposed how fragile our health care system really is.

Is there any info on typical progression of the disease? When the result is ultimately critical or severe, does that happen rapidly? Or in a typical case will someone have mild symptoms for a few days and then it progresses?
I know with the flu, it tends to start out rough and ease over time.

I coincidentally ran out of hand sanitizer and just went to get some more. I like to keep a bottle in my car. I had no idea there had been a run on hand sanitizer.
Are people buy 10 bottles in one transaction?

opposite here. starts mild and suddenly you tank. this is probably the main reason it's so easy to spread. you feel mostly okay while infected....until you dont.

There seem to be different stages of illness that patients may move through.
(#1) Replicative stage – Viral replication occurs over a period of several days. An innate immune response occurs, but this response fails to contain the virus. Relatively mild symptoms may occur due to direct viral cytopathic effect and innate immune responses.
(#2) Adaptive immunity stage – An adaptive immune response eventually kicks into gear. This leads to falling titers of virus. However, it may also increase levels of inflammatory cytokines and lead to tissue damage – causing clinical deterioration.
This progression may explain the clinical phenomenon wherein patients are relatively OK for several days, but then suddenly deteriorate when they enter the adaptive immunity stage

My wife works for an urgent care along the gulf coast. Her boss came in on Wednesday of last week and said they now have the test available and they can test anybody they want to. Not sure what to think about that ER doc saying that.

I work in an ER on the gulf coast and what that ER doc said mimics my recent experiences.
we had a patient come in we wanted to test and were told no by the state health department.
wasn't until they went to the ICU with ARDS that they finally said ok, test. we are still awaiting those results.

I've seen videos of people buying up all the hand sanitizer and toilet paper in the store. Price gouging is wrong, but when I see shite like that I wish store would raise prices to give stupid people pause.

On Saturday, Home Depot had the entire front aisle filled with pallets of hand sanitizer, lysol and cleaning products. It was handy as I needed to snag one for the truck. Curious if there is anything left there today.

Labcorp launched their test on Thursday and Quest today. Previously all testing has been done through CDC & state labs based on CDC criteria.
Because CDC fricked up so badly, FDA anounced March 1 that it would allow some private lab developed tests to go public withoutregulatory review. Those just became available. No clue on pricing on the analysis though.

Can someone explain to me 1) how do companies develop these tests so quickly? and 2) how does a company come up with a vaccine so quickly??? I mean I know that's their job but still -- IDK that I'd want to take the vaccine if it comes out soon. 50, healthy, and I wash my hands

that explains a lot. we couldn't do anything till Friday, and we use labcorp.

test is simple. you read the DNA/RNA from the virus then make a complement strand. you take a sample and if you can replicate from your "template", you have a positive test

That's got superspreader written all over it.
I also found this chart helpful in describing why protective measures are so important.

Our local Kroger has limited 5 sanitizer bottles and cold/flu products per transaction.

Good point, but have you ever been to Yellowstone in the Spring/Summer? It's the Disneyworld of National Parks. And it fills up with Asians.
Yeah, but Yellowstone is a BIG place. You can get away from everyone if you're willing to go back country.
