WHO Report from China
I know the numbers might be suspect, but the report is pretty promising. Lays out a believable case for things actually being under control there.

China has a policy of meticulous case and contact identification for COVID-19. For example,
in Wuhan more than 1800 teams of epidemiologists, with a minimum of 5 people/team, are
tracing tens of thousands of contacts a day. Contact follow up is painstaking, with a high
percentage of identified close contacts completing medical observation. Between 1% and
5% of contacts were subsequently laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19, depending on
location. For example:
• As of 17 February, in Shenzhen City, among 2842 identified close contacts, 2842
(100%) were traced and 2240 (72%) have completed medical observation. Among
the close contacts, 88 (2.8%) were found to be infected with COVID-19.
As of 17 February, in Sichuan Province, among 25493 identified close contacts,
25347 (99%) were traced and 23178 (91%) have completed medical observation.
Among the close contacts, 0.9% were found to be infected with COVID-19
As of 20 February, in Guangdong Province, among 9939 identified close contacts,
9939 (100%) were traced and 7765 (78%) have completed medical observation.
Among the close contacts, 479 (4.8%) were found to be infected with COVID-19.

Yes I know Darth, I love the market too. my point was they started the graph literally a month after one of the largest stock market pullbacks in history. But the point of the article is correct and true.

Asymptomatic infection
has been reported, but the majority of the relatively rare cases who are asymptomatic on
the date of identification/report went on to develop disease. The proportion of truly
asymptomatic infections is unclear but appears to be relatively rare and does not appear to
be a major driver of transmission.

What have they been doing since this event started?
Well if you believe the leftists on Imgur/reddit, it’s Trumps fault they are bumbling incompetents that have been wrong at every step. Gutting their budget and all.
Funny how just last week they were the hero’s standing up with profound expertise against state’s choice to send back positive citizens in an isolated part of the plane.
Their insistence is that the fact that no one got sick is merely coincidence and they got lucky.
Oh, and even better, they are trying to insinuate this case that the CDC humbled and was dealing with a week before the flight as evidence that Trump’s action made people sick.

It's not his fault but Trump will get blasted by the media when the positive cases explode after testing begins.
I saw a positive test in North Macedonia. How the frick are they testing in North Macedonia but UC Davis couldn't test an intubated patient they suspected of coronavirus.

Yeah, I would assume most people would have some sort of symptoms and are just not taking note of them because a lot of people get a runny nose/a cough from drainage this time of year.
And the people that are truly asymptomatic don't cough or sneeze all over the place so they aren't who you should be worried about.

Yep. Even though the people on the flight never became sick, (And I realize we are still in the window but odds are if they were gonna show, they would have already.) and therefore moot to the breakout.

Interesting that so many are falling for the doom and gloom scenario. Let’s see, late December Hong Kong is full of protestors. Barely two weeks later states streets are empty. Deaths worldwide are less than the flu in the US alone. Now the dims are calling for an end to Trumps rallies.. the things that makes one go hmmmm

Trump deserves a little flak if it turns out we don't have it under control in the US. You can't routinely get out there and say that we do, end up being wrong, and walk away unscathed. I understand it's not his expertise by any means, but it still matters.

Define “control” It’s literally a force of nature.
It’s going to spread.
Best he can do is deal with aftermath. Arrange medical supplies and surge facilities.

Ugh. My company just banned international business travel (including intra-Europe) as well as all discretionary in-country travel, globally. This is going to be a giant pain in my arse.

Billionaire and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said the coronavirus that has killed at least 2,859 people and infected more than 83,700 globally may be the “once-in-a-century pathogen we’ve been worried about.” “I hope it’s not that bad, but we should assume it will be until we know otherwise,” Gates wrote in an article published Friday in The New England Journal of Medicine.
The mortality rate is “many times more severe than typical seasonal influenza,” Gates said.
Is Bill shorting his own stock?

I often wonder what it's like to go through life so blindly partisan that you have to make everything about politics and gobble up every stupid conspiracy theory there is that fits your narrow world view.

There is no possible way this will be that costly.
Yep. This is me.
I have no qualms whatsoever about taking advantage of stupid panicky people.

It might be wise to wait until after the inevitable US outbreak. That will cause another round of uncertainty.

I'm no market expert but I think we're going lower. We were due for a sell off.
My bigger concern is not stocks but bonds. If the inverse relationship fails, there's no safe harbor.

Within eight days of the first reported death in Iran, COVID-19 had spread to twenty-four of the country’s thirty-one provinces. The number of cases has roughly doubled daily since Tuesday. Instead of closing down public sites, a measure that public-health experts have taken in other countries, the head of the shrine in Qom called on pilgrims to keep coming. “We consider this holy shrine to be a place of healing. That means people should come here to heal from spiritual and physical diseases,” Mohammad Saeedi, who is also the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader in Qom, said in a video.
Is there anything this religion is good for?
