You talk as if it’s over. How many people did the swine flu kill in the first 3 months?
Killed 353 confirmed people in the first 3 months in the US.

It seems weird to compare the effect of things that originated in opposite sides of the world on the same location in this way though.

First of all, what type of pneumonia are you talking about? A secondary bacterial pneumonia? Or viral pneumonia?
Both the flu and COVID-19 can cause the same problems. COVID-19 at much higher rates.
I wasn't trying to break it down on a technicality - I'm just pointing out that many "flu" deaths end up with pneumonia. Same with COVID-19.

This is one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Plague. May be a terminal condition for the human race.

I agree, it’s basically semantics. Both of these viruses kill in the same way, COVID-19 in higher rates from what we have seen so far (that could change to be fair).

Sure, but this particular tangent came about when talking about quality of life impacts that are coming from the coronavirus (according to one CDC employee).
Swine flu was as big in this country as a pandemic has been in our lifetime. It was a big deal to the hundreds of thousands who were infected.
For the average American though? Not much more than a blip.

China's National Health Commission reports 406 new cases of coronavirus and 52 new deaths, nearly all in Hubei province
Only 5 new cases in the rest of China
I will say that is somewhat suspect given how quickly this is spreading around the globe.

If the markets keep going down they may report zero deaths tomorrow.

Yeah, I’m starting to think that this virus really is not as contagious as the models predicted.
