Another thing to remember is the demographics on these cruise ships is older to elderly, which isn’t going to help with this virus...

What in the ever loving frick are you talking about? Where did I say quarantines would stop the spread.

The cruise ship is a terrible environment to be sick in, but everyone has known for a while and has been quarantined in their quarters.
The virus takes up to 24 days to incubate... people showing symptoms now may have caught it long before the lockdown. And as stated, the lockdown was not a lockdown. They were still allowed out of their rooms to touch things and venture about, even though they may not have been interacting with others. If they were asymptomatic, they could touch a railing and when the next person came long, spread it to them.
And again, the virus apparently passed via pipe 10 stories in a condo between two individuals. If it can do that, how easy does it transfer between the pipes and ventilation in a 2000 room ship?

So you’re saying they were allowed outside of their rooms like I just stated, which is different than stated a few posts up...
They were allowed outside of their rooms as long as they didn’t interact. My statement is true, you just added more details around the restrictions.
Correct. Perhaps I read more into your post than was there, but I was envisioning passengers freely roaming about the ship while keeping their distance.

You seem to believe the ridiculous Chinese numbers and at the same time talking about how effective you believe the quaretines are.
If the quarantines have really squashed the new cases down to a hundred or so we’re well on the way to controlling this. That’s not the rhetoric coming from the cdc or who.

Oh hell no, I could only imagine the liability... was still dumb for them to let them out, but honestly, what are you going to do?
The problem comes in with how many were asymtomstic and venturing out, touching things only to return to their room and the next person come along and touch the same thing.

Keep talking out of your arse...I’ve said numerous times the numbers aren’t what China says they are.
Back up your claim... quit putting words in my mouth. I have never once said the quarantine would kill this thing off, as your last post stated. And now you double down and moving the goal posts claiming I believe the Chinese numbers.

It doesn’t pass the smell test that a single cruise ship with 3,000 people has 1/3 as many new cases (67) than the rest of mainland China (outside of the Wuhan/Hubei area) has experienced (167)
quote:
How does it not? Millions of people spaced out, quarantined in their houses, able to avoid people compared with 3000 people confined to a 600 yard ship in which everyone touches the same things over and over and over again? Most of the people showing signs now prob caught it a week or two ago when they were still allowed to gather in common areas as long as they kept space.... but that does change the fact that they are still touching doors, railings, etc.. after each other
Someone said the numbers didn’t pass the smell test and you said they did. What else could you have meant?

As one of our resident corona virus experts, you’ve elevated yourself to an annoying poster on this topic.
I’m not sure why that happened, but it has.
And it’s annoying.

Taiwan just had its first death.
quote:
@BNODesk
The victim is a man in his 60s with no history of traveling and there are no known links to previous cases
The victim also had underlying health issues, namely hepatitis B and diabetes, according to Taiwan's CDC

Pro. Neil Ferguson said that China is testing only those with travel history to Wuhan/Hubei I hadn't heard that before. May explain the relative low numbers for the rest of the country?
Also new restrictions for Hubei:
@BNODesk
·
1h
Hubei province announcement:
- Residential communities on lockdown
- Residents should not go out unless it's necessary
- Use of private vehicles is banned
- Non-essential public places closed
- Mass gatherings banned
- Supermarkets, pharmacies and other essential places are open

I did not, I stated the fact that there’s a reason there is such an uptick on the cruise ship and it’s not far fetched for there to be more increase in that environment than out in the open. I never said “the Chinese numbers are accurate”, just that proportionately, it’s not that unrealistic to see a larger jump on the ship.

I’m by no means an expert, never claimed to be and never will. Just trying to bring objectivity and realism here.

Fair enough. I think it’s completely unrealistic when you consider it’s a billion vs 3000. If China isn’t actually confirming more cases it’s because they aren’t looking for them.

A bit more about the death in Taiwan
But two does not make a cluster.

News outlets in Taiwan reported that the man had worked as a taxi driver and could have been infected by a passenger. A male relative in his 50s who lived with the man was also infected, health officials said.

This. 90% of this thread is one big pissing contest about who thinks they are more correct about this issue.
Wish I had a dollar for every time someone has posted something about the Chinese government not being truthful.
Yeah that's obvious, but it has only been posted 120 times.

So essentially, China is saying die in your house and we’ll come and pick up your body.

I have a coworker who is in Singapore. He says he Is screened when he arrives at work site (he has a cough so is not allowed in). Is screened anytime he walks in the hotel for fever. If you have a fever you are not allowed in and must go to the hospital.
Probably not the most effective screening, but they are attempting to keep things under control. I'm watching carefully as they want me to travel there next month.
