But, the announcement says "midflight".
Normally passports are checked waaaay before getting on the plane.

And why should the airport have to dig through a passport in order to verify that info? And what’s to stop someone from ripping out the page with a Chinese stamp on it?
Well, if the airline doesn't want to be diverted, I guess they'd better figure it the frick out, right?

And they are only checked to make sure you are able to enter the country, not where you’ve been.

There are videos on twitter where people are dying at their home and being carried away.

Yeah, lets take personal responsibility out of the equation.
Why not post warnings that anyone attempting to enter the US that has been in China within two weeks of flight will be detained, fined, visa revoked forever, and deported.

I don't know, maybe because we the other 300 possibly exposed people that are on the 14 hour flight with the person who's been to China are a problem as well? Land somewhere else.

Hasn’t happened yet
The 9 people in the US who have it and came back from Wuhan didn’t infect a single person on the flight. So using your number, that means there are 2700 people out there with the virus

First time you've ever trusted the NYT.

This virus is ravaging Wuhan, all the numbers are a lie and thousands are dead, yet it can't kill a handful of people outside of China?
Y'all are too much.
Y'all are too much.

How many people are really dead in china.?

I doubt the Chinese at most levels of government know the number for the subset they are responsible for.
Nor will they ever know if they are doing cremations and are disposing of bodies that have not had the 'official' test of which they don't enough .

Somewhere between the official number and a number that would satisfy the dreams of many in this thread. I'd imagine it's much, much closer to the official number than many are clearly hoping.

China's foreign press had a red letter day. They managed to compare border restrictions to the Jewish Holocaust. Then, they attempted to blame the US for creating unnecessary panic.
The next couple of months will make for some macabre theater as China tries to figure out a way to scapegoat everyone else.

Dude, just stop. Saying stuff like this makes you no better than the overly dramatic people you are making fun of. It also puts a stain on the good factual information you have brought to this thread.
Yes there are some people that won’t listen to reason and think this will be the next big plague, but nobody is clearly hoping for millions of deaths.

And they woulda gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for those meddling OTers.

They're unhappy with the numbers out of China. They constantly find articles to support the idea China is lying and the impact is far greater, but they ignore the international numbers that are staring them in the face. I don't know how else to interpret it. They won't be happy until the numbers out of China are higher.
Posted on 2/3/20 at 8:56 am to slackster
They must not be too worried about Wuhan any more because one of our suppliers there started back to work today.

I don’t think being suspicious equates to being unhappy.

Of course it does. It’s like a weather thread. No, nobody wants millions to die.
But nobody wants the saga to end with a thud Right now either. Everyone wants to scare themselves and panic a little and then be able to express sincere relief with things blow over. But they don’t want that to happen until they bore of the news/thread/etc.
