The problem is that there has been zero evidence supporting it other than a lab existing. It’s a crackpot conspiracy theory based on less than “jet fuel can’t melt steel” and people sit back smugly saying “well prove me wrong.”
You don’t even know WHAT they were working on.
BSL4 labs aren’t insidious by nature...hell there is one at A&M’s main campus.

No doubt they are everywhere, I just look back at the scenarios we trained for at NBC school. If this isn’t man made, it would be almost perfect to tweak and weaponize. Make it a little more contagious and a little more deadly, develop vaccine, inculcate troops and turn it loose.

From jump street they've believed, much like SARS, it originated from bats and likely has an intermediate carrier that transmits it to humans. Nothing has been nailed down, but the man made stuff is next level speculation to say the least.
