This rather long CNN story is about a woman who returned to China Jan. 10 to care for her terminally ill mother who was in a hospital. meanwhile the hospital was filling with people who were ill many presumably with Corona. Only after over a week did a Dr. recommend that all family members wear face masks. Now her Father may have it, she may have it and her still terminally ill Mother has been moved to an older hospital so that the other hospital can be devoted to Corona patients.
It's a really depressing read. And eye opening. And China isn't a third world s**t hole. Lots of Doctors from all over the world have been educated there. Just damn.

They're both in the hospital right now.

Not surprising at all. 98.5% of cases are in mainland China, but 125 international cases seems to met the "standards" for PHEIC.

The WHO Chief just said they do not recommend restrictions on trade or transportation. PHEIC is just a label.

Which is a political answer cause of the ramifications if they did. You argue the PHEIC is just a title, but that statement has no meaning as well. Countries will decide on their own to shut down transportation and trade as they wish, not because some organization with no power says so.

Exponential regression of the mainland China numbers since 1/16 would peg the new total through today at 12,451 cases +/- 1,332 cases.
11,119 to 13,783 cases in this evenings update.
Worth noting yesterdays increase was the lowest percentage increase since China started releasing daily numbers. Hope that trend continues, and anything short of 9,953 cases would be a new "low."

So, let's note yesterday wasnt as bad, but expected to raise 2500 today. Yesterday just makes everything so much better...

Eh, maybe. The bigger issue is that it doesn't prove to be effective, like, ever.

I added their statement because I think it's important to share both sides of their statement. Posting the PHEIC and not posting their additional follow up is biased, IMO.

Absolutely. As they should, fwiw.

Fact of the matter is that when the rate of change begins to slow for a few days, the "peak" is typically not far off from a total cases standpoint. SARS cases in China grew by 33% in about a week from the end of April to early May. The next 33% didn't even materialize.
Look at how quickly new cases tend to peter out once things start to slow down. GeauxMedic posted some charts a minute ago.
