Although our phylogenetic analysis suggests that bats might be the original host of this virus, an animal sold at the seafood market in Wuhan might represent an intermediate host facilitating the emergence of the virus in humans.
This right here is why you don't store the bats next to the shrimp when you set up your market display for the day. Rookie mistake.

I’m mostly astonished how this one market seems to have as much animal representation as Noah’s ark

That just happens to be the name of the market. No idea how it is pronounced in China, though.

The paper adds they were in full gear during the treatment.

It's a potential incubation period of 14 days. They could've been infected a while ago.

Infection almost assuredly did not occur while in full gear.
Any slip ups in removing the gear could be culprit. Its happened in several instances with past epidemics. Remember a few treating that small ebola outbreak a few years ago had similar happen. It was just a failure of meticulously completing infection control procedures.
When you’ve been working 20 hours staright in full gear, that last 30 minutes of decontamination can be a risk if not staying sharp.

Have you seen the current state of hospitals in the area? People are stacked on top of each other and lines are wrapped around the building.
A person could literally pick up the virus walking to their car at shift change.

Not that it is pertinent to any of this, but did anyone here watch Nat Geo's "The Hot Zone" miniseries? It was pretty good.

The Q thread is almost at 5300 pages so no.

Im pretty sure RDS was joking. Its the obligatory question someone asks in any thread that makes it over 100 pages.

Yeah, any time we did full CBRNE/MOPP exercises on the flightline, it was a complete shite show.
Imagine trying to work on engines and putting in tiny screws with 2 layers of gloves and a mask (not to mention all the other gear).
