I'm thinking about pulling up on side of the cop down the street and asking him why he's been sitting on my street all night.

You and your gf get into a huge fight, one bad enough to where she is moving out. You decide to take out your gun and clean while she is still there and you wonder why her and her grandma are freaked out and called the cops? Sounds like you were trying to act like a badass to your gf and gave the cops plenty reason to come over and act like the douchebags they are. You're an idiot.

You live in texas dude. Get involved there with the law and you will quickly see who is more stupid and ignorant.
I went through a similar situation as the op. I told my wife to come home so i can leave the house. She called the cops, told them about my locker of guns and said i threatened to kill her. Two patrol cars showed up, asked me what happened and helped me load some shite into my truck. ....including my guns!

I seriously doubt this guy is telling the whole story about the gun. Even a glance or some nonverbal communication with the gun under these facts would have triggered intimidation that required all that police presence.

There is more to this story, and...
...you both are idiots.
...you both are idiots.

She must have said a lot to get that response. That's a lot of units for something like that. She called you armed and dangerous, and probably hinted that you threatened her.
If she had called it in that way, they would have had weapons drawn when he arrived, he would have been removed form the truck cuffed and searched for a weapon.

Sure, cleaning your gun after a breakup argument with your live in girlfriend doesn't raise any red flags at all.
Get your shite together.
Get your shite together.

You, without a doubt, are a fricking idiot, or you were yesterday.
Lets see, cleaning guns relaxes you. Yup. There is a reason why fathers make jokes about cleaning shotguns when boys show up to take out their daughters: Intimidation. They are joking but they really aren't.
So you have a fight, she moves out, and your first instinct is to whip out a firearm and clean it because it "relaxes" you. How many stories have we read because someone killed a girlfriend who was leaving? Damn right she called the cops. Exactly what she should have done. Sorry for the overkill but domestic violence calls are the most dangerous ones for cops. They did some shock and awe and guess what? Your relaxing arse didn't even think of cleaning the weapon any more, did it?
I don't think anyone really blames her for calling the cops when you started "relaxing".
She probably planned on breaking up with you last night when they sent that text. She was just trying to create an excuse to do it.

I can't believe this guy thought that cleaning a gun right after a serious argument was a good idea.

OP, how's your dog doing? Seen him lately.
Also, cleaning your pistol in the open while this was happening is stupid.
I don't blame them for calling the cops.

For everyone sake, skip the gun cleaning, or knife sharpening during fights. Polish your boots or something.
