If not, then given the fact the cop calmly illustrated his position and explained the consequences (which is likely departmental policy in the situation) of noncompliance in just walking to the curb to talk to him that means the dog’s death is more the owner’s fault than the cop’s.
Cop can't compel you to come talk to them or they shoot your dog. Sorry.

That is great news. He needed to be fired.

I’m not sure what needed to happen to him. I do know he never should possess a firearm or the authority to enforce laws, ever again.

But I do find it amusing that people react and assume without thinking
The irony of comments like this from people like you is truly astounding. Always back the cops without thinking, automatically react and assume any and all actions performed by person with a badge are justified.

Another day, another dog shot by a cop

Forgot the part where he asked him to restrain/pick up the dog too.
Yeah, so let's just discharge our weapon in the neighborhood.

And the part that it was contingent on the dog moving towards him which has already had neighbors reporting being aggressive to them.
Damn those aggressive rats in dog suits. Let's shoot them.

Except that wouldn’t be lawful. Which was part of an earlier statement contingent on it being acceptable or not.
A psychopath shooting a 10 pound dog, as punishment for the guy not coming to the road is not legal either. Both are against the law.
Don't worry though. They are investigating the best way to cover for their boy. They will investigate until the public outcry against their douchebag has died down some, then give him an undisclosed, in-house punishment.

So HOLY HYPERBOLE BATMAN
Holy boot-licking Boy Wonder. You know this crazy mother fricker does not need a badge and a gun.

Agree, but the sad truth is that this cop will probably go find another law enforcement job in another locale.
I have a question for all of the posters that are defending his actions. Would you be okay with this guy getting hired in your community? If your answer is yes, then you're a bigger moron than he is. Too many good cops out there to have to take a risk on this cowboy.
