Photography boy's "daddy's money" was earned by a three year stint in WWII combat, two tours of Korea, and three of Vietnam. It was a joy being in third grade and learning that Marines you knew were killed in Vietnam (usually 18 and 19 year olds who we dealt with as baseball coaches, etc.). Capt. Doxey was the son of a Marine pilot and he would throw baseball with neighborhood kids. Three months later, he's dead in Vietnam.
So, I'm not unfamiliar with the plight of the military. The homeless veterans are usually the victims of the bums who want to gang up on them and steal their money.

It's not really about that most likely. I wouldn't be surprised if the manager knows who this guy is and has told him to stop begging customers for food / money outside of his store and that he's not allowed in. It's bad for business. I'm not going to frequent a place if every time I go there, I'm approached for money by someone.
I also don't agree with just giving handouts on the street. When I see the same people at the same begging spots for multiple years, I've come to learn that handouts aren't helping them, but are only enabling them to keep begging and being homeless.
And that cop handled the situation flawlessly. She's the hero in this.

Travesty is McDonald's has a bin time limit for prepared and unsold items. They could simply give this man a few mcdoubles out of the back door if the wanted. They trash them anyway.
