This for sure. We still are using a mixer and toaster from 1979.

True. Cars back on the day didn't last near as long either, and owners learned to be backyard mechanics. Everyone knew basic maintenance at the least.

What about cost for a year of college, doctor visit, insurance, rent, or surgery?

I will say the prices of the merchandise on the right is bs.

Don't believe that alters the comparison though.

Not trying to get political, but it is pretty telling based on the graph somebody posted on page 3 that the industries with the least govt involvement all saw precipitous drops in prices, while the industries/services that are most regulated and subsidized saw steepest price increases.

And for those of you calling me dumb for posting my OP, a WSJ commentator who is an economist tweeted the story. Don’t shite on me for posting something I thought was interesting. Jeez

Coincidentally, my first semester at LSU was in the fall of 1979, my tuition was $527.

Pretty sure people are simply telling you to think shite through before trying to pull a “gotcha” moment on the OT.

Especially when people can easily poke holes in the quality of the product on the right (hint: most anything that cheap is shite and will be replaced multiple times) and easily point out that other necessary services for people have tripled or better in cost so it’s a moot point.

Mine was about $1200 in 1996. It's like 5-6k now.

That’s perfectly reasonable. I have read and found arguments against the op interesting and compelling. Btw, how the hell was it a “gotcha”?

Economists I respect on twitter (both left and right wing) posted this article and said it was worth a read. Russ Roberts, shiller, don Boudreaux.

I wasn’t at all in my OP trying to downplay the fact that costs of other stuff has not increased
