1) should have known better

2) Already had an architect look at it and say it was not load bearing and the joists are doing nothing other than supporting the sheetrock.

I'm almost positive that as long as the job is under $7500 that whoever does it does not need a piece of paper to qualify them to do the job

That's what I thought, but the problem is they need to include the cost of the new floor, new appliances, and new cabinets into the cost of the repair. Not just the contractor's cost (which was under $3k).

Does anyone know what the fine is for starting construction without a permit on residential property in Jefferson Parish?

$300.00

Just left the Yenni bldg. after being told that I needed a permit to put up a room for my cats and dogs. The inspector told me I was looking at a $300.00 fine unless I removed everything that had already been started. He said when the inspector comes back out, if the construction was gone I would not be fined. I could then file for permits and start over. Was told I needed architectural drawings, a new survey, and an engineering certification that the existing slab was ok to build on. All for a room for my animals to stay in so I can get them out of my house.

Nosey neighbors are the worst. Whoever called on me didn't have the balls to come talk to me first.

This is why people sneak around because of the BS you have to put up with in Jefferson. They nickel and dime you to death.

Oh, and frick YOU whoever called on me, you ball-less piece of shite. I hope every stray dog and cat shits in your yard and has babies under your carport.

The whole point is so the tax assessor is informed that either your property has expanded or been renovated...so you can pay more taxes. So yes, you have to pay for permits, inspections, architect, surveyor, etc. just for the privilege of paying more taxes.

What happens if you don't inform them and you build the structure? Will they make you tear it down?

There is a good chance it was not your neighbors, around here they the permit office pays a finders fee to the people that pick up the trash. If they see something being built, or significant amounts of construction debris being thrown away and no visible permit they turn in the address to the permit people.

In Orleans for the trades I know of, it's six times the fee.

FYI, the permit office will always tell you you have to have a permit regardless if your removing an Ant mound in the back yard or adding a second floor to your house because its money for them. Just move along with your project and dont worry about the fine and if you get busted set your neighbors house on fire like Wick suggested.

Hell, you used to make out the permit checks for commercial permits to the petty cash account.

Jefferson Parish is the worst. Prepare thy anus. They require a permit and two inspections for a driveway to be poured. You done messed up bro.

According to that link a permit IS NOT required for driveway or any site paving.

So you just made that up.

Oh come on... We all know that the law is one thing, and what the JP permit office says is another

Their job is to keep themselves busy.

The JP permit office says you DONOT need a permit for driveway or site paving. Their is no law involved.

This gives you a list of construction projects that do and don't require a permit in Jefferson Parish.
