big problem with CUCV is that it's not air conditioned!!!!

there were some pulled out of POMCUS stocks with little or no mileage on them....I don't know where you would find one easily today as they were phased out of the system in the 1990's

yep. they've hit rock bottom on price and now supply is starting to dwindle so its getting tougher to find them..i would expect the prices to start going up for ones that are kept 'spec' as much as possible.

we're not even changing the 24v system because it works pretty dang good after you get used to it.

we're in TN..not as big of a deal as south LA. he doesnt want to add anything to it that wasn't on it when it was new.

Where do you find those at? I wouldn't mind having one as a camp truck.

check craigslist (use search tempest because they get snapped up almost as soon as they are listed)

also steelsoldiers.com will have one for sale about once a week or so..but the problem is those people know what they have so you won't find a deal like craigslist.

the quicker you respond, the more likely you'll get one at a cheap price because until people start contacting the craigslist seller..they don't realize the value of the vehicles.

the govt used to auction them but the supply has dwindled to nothing now.

If he did the 7th injector mod and the overdrive pulley, then yes, yes it was.

They have em running low 13s in the quarter on 33in tires.

This is what your son is destined for, way to go dad. And jesus christ, stop making threads about your son's truck. Live vicariously much?

That's actually cool as hell. I want one.

- gets about 15 mpg at diesel prices
- needs moAr batteries! 24v

...and a bitch to start in the winter. The diesels weren't turbocharged if I remember. They were not very fast.

That's just part of the experience of owning 1970's technology. It's still a cool truck and an absolute beast off road.

Just for full disclosure, I had a 1977 model of the truck pictures in the OP. I regret getting rid of it.

I didn't have the money for all that back then. Mine only ran 14.8. Still fast enough to beat most people I raced back in the day (surprised many non PI Mustang GTs and pretty much any non turbo rice burners), and a lot of fun off road.

Did the new CUCV models get that bluetooth I asked about in the 1st thread?

That could be the deciding factor.

Big deal. I survived Louisiana summers in the civilian version of that same make and model with no power brakes, no power windows, no power steering, and no air conditioning.

The lack of power steering was a real work out when you were in low speed areas like parking lots or driveways.

A nonsupercharged 3.4 will take a tuned 6.7 cummins until the last few feet of the 1/4.

Those tuned up 3.4s are freaking FAST
