Wait, you think the casinos lobbied against sports betting?

Degenerates still placed sports bets. They just did so in the black market that has no tax collection and no legal mode of conflict resolution.

THIS - Remember when the casino money was going to be used to fix the education system and roads. What A Joke - the citizens get f'ed while the fat cats party

Yep, they said all the money would goto those projects, which it did, but they stopped all the other streams of money going there, so it was the same amount of previous money, just from a new source

The Baptists Ok'd dockside gambling back '92 or whatever because they wanted the money. They take a ton of that casino money up into northern MS while still playing that religious angle. Coast has the Catholic tradition

Geography is not your strong suit is it?

Right at half the casinos in MS are on or above I-20, almost a third are on the TN line.

Because the people who elected them don't want it legalized. Do you even understand how government works. Or is supposed to work?

LOL at you thinking this is why La dropped the ball on this.

What was the actual reason?

There wasn't enough graft to sway the legislature.

Mississippi made a killing on sports betting this weekend. But because Bible we miss out.

LSU, Miss st, ole miss and bama all easily covered. I don’t think the sports books in Mississippi made money.

All legalizing it does is take the money from the entrepreneur and gives it to the state. Why do we want bigger government? Also the ONLY reason Louisiana is waiting is so the politicians can get their graft first and then set up a revenue stream for the corrupt. It takes time to set up corruption in the right way. The Mississippi politicians will get pennies on the dollar compared to our politicians

Amen Pic. I agree La shoulda jumped on this as soon as it had the chance. Only reason they are waiting is to make sure the graft and corruption is divided equally and appropriately.

I don't think you know how sportsbooks operate.

Personally, I think more people should be bent out of shape over restrictions enforced upon us, especially when we’re broke as frick.

But don’t worry, instead of making sports betting legal, they’ll just raise your property tax.

LOL even harder if you think any of our state's fiscal woes could be solved by, if only we had more gambling.

I actually do, do you understand that sports books routinely lose money on an individual weekend? And that many casinos look at them more as a way to get more gamblers on the floor?

They routinely lose relatively small sums, if the action gets to heavy on one side to adjust with a line change they lay off the bet elsewhere, in the case of the mega corps they are insulated by being in multiple states and can normally handle it in house with a line change at all locations.

Are these Mississippi books setting their own lines? Guy was making a geographically specific point.

We don’t have morals. Our lovely elected politicians couldn’t find a way to pocket all the taxes.

The MS casinos are parts of mega corps now, Harrahs, Golden Nugget, Hard Rock etc are branded as such while others like the Beau Rivage which is a MGM property or the Silver Slipper which is a Full House property operate under different names.

These companies are not losing a penny, while a 1 point line change may not move the needle at say the Biloxi location it pours money in on the other side nationwide.

Simply put you are betting against other gamblers somewhere and the house is just raking 10% of the top, they do not GAF about heavy one sided action in one location, it is based on bets across all properties and they will lay it off elsewhere in an instant if need be.
