About two months ago I was approached by a clean cut white guy in the Highland Home Depot parking lot. He said he was a medical salesman from New Orleans here on business and gave me this long spill about how his wallet was stolen out of his car and he needed a little gas money to get home to his wife. He's driving an older Mercedes. I never carry cash and was late for a closing so I couldn't help him. Kinda felt bad. Today I'm at Lowes on Siegen and the same guy approaches me with the same damn gimmick. I didn't recognize him at first because he small talked me about the tires on my truck and then he hit me with it and I recognized him. This guy is good. I asked him how long ago his wallet was stolen because he approached me with the same story two months ago. He said that's impossible because he and his wife were vacationing in Hawaii. He got pissed and walked away.
ETA; he's late 40's early 50's, wears casual business attire with a blazer, has an iPhone in his hand and claims he will call you from it so he can pay you back.

I guess I'm just a dick because when I see someone approaching me in a parking lot I just yell at them that I don't have any cash before they can say a word. They get so pissed

He looks like he's made a come up since I last saw him. I sat and watched him walk around the parking lot. It looked like he was targeting people he thought were contractors.

Well the black guy at Academy got the cancer the other night and did I know anyone with cancer and did they get through it and can I give him $5?

I had a black guy come up to me at Walmart on College saying he needed 8.75 for a bus ticket to Lake Charles to go to work. He pulled out his wallet and showed me his license and talked about how bad he needed to work. Fast forward two weeks, he comes up to me and before he started talking I told him I didn't have cash. Fast forward about 2 months, he walked up to me and I said "damn man you aint caught that bus yet?" he started laughing and said "nah not yet" and walked away.

"Gas money" is the universal routine for a bullshite con game. Nobody approaching strangers in public for gas money ever actually needs gas. Never.

Same broke "medical salesman" from New Orleans tried to hit me up in the Siegen Lowes parking lot about a month ago. The guy really was a good salesman. I questioned him a whole lot and finally told him I wasn't giving him cash.
He broke the ice by talking LSU football, was right after Bama game. His story was that his car was out of gas in the parking garage at our lady of the lake and his wallet was stolen but for some reason he had a smart car with him at Lowes(said it was a rental), but needed money to put gas in his car that was at the Lake.
