To me, the escalation after the first hint of non-compliance needs to be addressed. Things go south wayyyy too fast. Wasn't this a traffic stop for a busted tail light? Why was the cop asking for the PASSENGER'S ID????

Just give the driver a ticket and move on.

"Compliance" basically means do whatever a cop says or you will get shot.

Where is the "LAWFUL compliance" component??? Too many times police feel that you just do whatever they say despite the law. And their reaction, however hard, is ok, even if it is shooting someone over a busted twilight.

Yes and no. You shouldn't struggle, but you also shouldn't just piss away your rights.

A group of coworkers and I (all white) got pulled over for speeding and the cop asked for all our ID's. It's not unusual at all.

Cops do plenty of data mining while working in areas of high crime. They will log names of individuals they come across for reference at a later time. Not sure of it's legality, but they do plenty of it.

Couldn't agree more. But right now more than rights are being pissed away.

Problem is many times people do not understand the law or their rights.

The place to argue law and rights is at the station or courtroom not in the streets.

Agreed. Cops should push less, so should people.

If this was a simple stop for a taillight and the video came on immediately after the victim was shot (as alleged)... why were there 5 cop cars in the video behind the victim's car???

This still doesn't make any sense to me... Cops don't send 5 units to pull over a black person for a busted tail light... and there couldn't have been time for them to just all show up after the initial shots were fired. That doesn't seem plausible.

I still say there is a WHOLE lot more to this routine traffic stop than just a busted tail light and an Asian cop shooting a black guy for no reason.

Without exception, every killing we've seen over the last five years on TV, concerning a white cop and a black perp, this fundamental principle was violated.
He wasn't killed, but I doubt that's your greater point, but:

Eh, we were drinking in the car on a road trip and the driver got busted doing 105. I wasn't about to get in a pissing match with AZ DPS

The guy in Minnesota was complying and he got shot?

did the officer instruct him to get his carry license out? I don't have mine but I've been told that you keep your hands on the wheel/dash until the officer tells you to get it out
