Not sure how that’s true since no one has died under 10

Maybe they don’t want 12,000 people to die again?

I remember H1N1 because we were scrambling to find additional ventilators.

Both H1N1 and H1N5 were worse than this.
You might want to wait until coronavirus runs its course before you start comparing it to other diseases.
Maybe the goal is to stop this before it is able to kill 12k people? Maybe they are reacting based on what they learned from H1N1?
And its not like EVERYTHING is shutting down. For the most part, we are still able to go about our normal life. Has anyone one this board's day to day life been impacted? Minus anything travel related, how has your life been impacted?

From a purely utilitarian perspective 12,000 random lives lost would be worth far less utils than the negative economic and other impact to hundreds of millions that our reaction to corona will have.
From a individualistic or moralistic standpoint maybe the assessment is different.

I honestly am scared to say this, because frick going political, but like it or love it, caring for the few by taking from the many is about as baseline social welfare as you get

From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1) pdm09 virus.
Additionally, CDC estimated that 151,700-575,400 people worldwide died from (H1N1) pdm09 virus infection during the first year the virus circulated.
Damn, sure seems like they could've taken much more drastic measures to save thousands of lives and people should've been a lot more worried about it.

Within 1 week now people on this board will finally realize that this is not a joke.
WE got 50....Jesus tap dancing Christ...50 new cases in the last 24 hours in the US.....Do you know how much of a joke that is with all that we are shutting down??? Here is a clue....that number is NOTHING... NOTHING... NOTHING.....Pandemic my arse.

50 new confirmed by testing. Do you realize how many people haven't been tested? Wait until testing ramps up this weekend and next week.
The numbers will grow by several orders of magnitude.
And 50 is not right -- shite, just Nashville has doubled from 9 to 18 in the last 6 hours.

15% of over 80 have died.

Not embarrassing factual.
My site is the Johns Hopkins site and between 8:30 yeaterday morning and 8:30 this morning 50...
The hospitals I work with across the Country have been dealing with an "unknown" respiratory illness since at least December....the ONLY reason you fear mongers are calling this anything else but the "flu-like" illness it has been for a while is because of testing. I am positive that I had it in late January and early Febrary…..it is shocking what is being done in the name of stopping this "new" thing that has been here for months.

Whut??? You don't even know the true number of infected to do that math.....Like I said in my last post. This has been in the US for months. Compared to H1N1 this thing is a pansy.

Well, there is your problem...The NY Times...the fear mongers and fake news screamers favorite Son.
Try a site like Johns Hopkins that DOES NOT include PRESUMPTIVE cases..only confirmed.
