Who brings their spouse to a happy hour?

If I brought my wife, it wouldn't be happy anymore

This but I’d use my SO not being able to go as an out. He would let me if I wanted to go but it’s just a respect thing and I spend enough time with my coworkers.

Why would I want to go drinking at a bar while my wife sits home? Or better yet, why would a husband sit home while drunk co-workers hit on and flirt with his wife? You’d think 8 hours is enough time for all that.
Jesus Christ. You sound insufferable. Get some fricking friends, Peter Klaven.

Quarterly happy hours where attendance is expected would annoy me. When younger I would have been all for it. But at this stage in my life I would much rather get home, give the wife a kiss, mix a drink and walk my damn dog than make small talk with Suzy from accounting while she giggles over her Bellini.

Its a team building thing with your coworkers. Its a way to allow everyone to loosen up and talk shop.
If spouses are there then a lot of employees would be talking to other SO's and not their coworkers. So it would defeat the "team" building idea.
Once a quarter is a weak thing to complain about when your supervisors are trying to do something positive.

Can the spouses go and pay for their own?

Most of the time when we drink with co-workers it's separate. she has met mine once or twice and vice versa... kinda odd that it's a requirement. But I mean...I guess don't go if you don't want to??

How the hell are you supposed to get laid with your wife there?

Yeah, but everybody isn't a big pussy like you.

Nailed it. I have 3 kids, two under the age of 4. Between their activities, work, etc., I don't have time for company happy hour.

Hanging out drinking without my SO is.
Just old school, sorry

That's the exact opposite of old school. frick me running, you people sound like wet rags. It's an hour. Every 3 months. With free fricking booze. You are either the wallflowers at your work that nobody really likes or you're the assholes at work that nobody likes. If that weren't the case, you'd have at least friendly relationships with your coworkers and would enjoy their company outside of the office.
Mother Mary, quarterly happy hours... Just not a big deal. I love my wife and kids and all, but I can spare one night when I get home at 8:00 instead of 7:00. And my wife can to.

Huh?
I don’t believe in going out in a barroom setting without my SO. You do you and more power to you.

Good. Then we won't be missed. And hey, I'll still approve the corporate expenditure for your little happy hour, I just won't be there.

Are you a woman? If so, ok. If not, old school would be a man getting drinks with the men of his office at a bar and smoking cigarettes and bullshitting about their wives. This was done with frequency before women became more ubiquitous in the workplace.

Cool you make 55k a year to approve expenses in the accounts payable department. Keep those dreams high slugger.
