1) traffic backs up at the curve just past the 55/10 interchange because evidently the drivers of this state cannot navigate it without slowing down to 25 mph

They are the same way on the high-rise in NOLA-East. It's as if they don't believe there is really land on the other side until they can see it when they crest the top.

OP - That commute won't be bad at all.

You do not go from Hammond to NOLA via causeway and only take 50-55 minutes. That is easily a 1hr15min trip...

From Madisonville to CBD it takes 55 minutes without traffic.

I have a potential job opportunity in Hammond but I’d like to continue to live in New Orleans. I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with commuting. I know it probably wouldn’t be much fun but I want to balance the positives of the opportunity with the negatives of commuting. Thanks.

Meet me at LaPlace Pilot Truck stop for "chicken dicks" and coffee in the mornings.

That drive is quite easy btw. Going home you sometimes see 10 east on the spillway or kenner all fricked up but you can plan around that by checking traffic and using 61 and whatnot .

come into the city from Prairieville everyday and you do get used to it, but by Thursday I'm dragging.

Are YOU that motherfricker in the Black Yaris that goes 100mph down I-10East in the mornings from about 73 to at least 310 around 6am?

Also, you ever see that dude in the old arse brown van in the mornings?

He was broke down the other morning. Felt bad for him. My commuting buddy.

Its not 55 that will be the problem, its 10 and 12 that are the problems. But assuming you go to work in the AM and come home in the PM, you will be going against that fricking disgusting traffic I see heading from and to kenner everyday.

I'm in a white Lincoln for my commute. I'm sure we've seen each other in the mornings. I head home at 3:45-4pm to beat most of the Nola traffic

I did the Hammond to Metairie route for about 5years. It was quicker to go causeway then I-55 because of i10 traffic from Metairie to the 55 spilt.

Definitely check your traffic. I often have to cross the lake when dropping kids off or picking them up after school. Sometimes going Causeway is faster and sometimes going 55 (18 miles further) is faster. Google or Waze will tell you which is faster based on traffic.

Did it for a couple years, it's easy, you are always going against traffic, except coming back by the airport where there is permenant traffic. I did live in lakeview though, probably way worse coming from uptown

Honestly OP. With a new and LONG commute. Be smart and add an Ad&d plan to your employer bennies. I did it and added an extra $75k to my life inshoance just for extra payout if I'm kilt driving to and from work. It costs about $1.50 a paycheck.

From Metairie to Hammond is definitely not shorter or quicker on the causeway. I think you have it the opposite. 55 is probably 18 miles shorter. I think if you were going to Robert or Goodbee then the causeway might be the same distance and it all depends on traffic.

it is almost exactly the same number of miles from Hammond to downtown New Orleans driving either route. Problem with going causeway (besides Olivia matte) is that traffic backs up on 12E at Covington most of the time in the afternoon

From the I-10/Causeway interchange to the I-55/I-12 interchange is 48 miles. Using the causeway its 58 miles. Just googled it.
