Navy SeaBees might be an option.

Navy does not guarantee specific jobs anymore? Maybe things have changed since I was on Noah's ark.
Granted it was over 20 years ago, but I was guaranteed my job when I joined the Navy. Had to wait 6 months for a billet to open, but I got it.

Navy Diver. Learn underwater welding. Get out and make bank.
I went to Hospital Corps school with a SAT Diver. Asked him why he was switching rates over to be a corpsman. He said his goal was to run decompression chambers for companies that did underwater construction. Apparently, he did his homework and saw where they made big $$$$ without touching the water.

Navy Diver School is incredibly difficult. If this young man is 24 and has floundered in life, it may be hard for him to pass that training. Unless the military helps him find the direction he has missed in his life to this point.

Appreciate all the feedback guys.
Knew I could count on the OT to come through.

I'd say it depends on what kind of kid he is. Did he wrestle in high school? Is he strong willed?
If he wants to learn a trade or something, go air force or navy. If he wants to be gung ho, have him sign an option 40 contract with the army. Airborne Ranger...
I think I had what it took to do that and took the advise of others that didn't serve. I was a paratrooper but could have been more. If he wants to be high speed / low drag that's the path.

My step-son (24) has had a few jobs but not a career
I hate to say it... but tell him to join the Air Force.
It's not as hard on your body and easier to learn a trade. If he is dead set on the Marines or Army, tell him to pick a MOS which he will learn a skill/career (not truck driver).

I missed this one. I had 5 permanent duty stations in 10 years. My sis-in-law made it to E6 in the AF without ever leaving Eglin, though. Never even went TDY.
I meant be in the dorms until you're E-6.
My wife is Coast Guard and they pcs constantly, we will have our 5th base in 10 years next summer. Move a lot and always have nice bases!

exactly the image that comes to mind when I see all of these chest thumpers out and about wearing something to make people take notice that they are a veteran, decals/stickers all over their vehicles, and the public buys in, every person to put on the uniform was an Audie Murphy, have an ex bil that fits that category, absolutely will not walk through the house, much less out in public without his cavalry hat, or a baseball cap proclaiming his war hero status, and believe me, he was only accepted because of supply/demand

What breaux said!! Each branch will list certain vacancies but require different asvab scores in like caereers. In laments terms, all four services offer aircraft maintenance but each branch would have different score requirements for the career field. So, yea take asvab and go see what each has to offer...
Consider enlistment bonuses, reenlistment bonus career feilds, quality of life ...my advice!
