The Afloat Forward Staging Base (Interim) USS Ponce (ASB(I) 15) conducts an operational demonstration of the Office of Naval Research (ONR)-sponsored Laser Weapon System (LaWS) while deployed to the Arabian Gulf.
The Laser Weapon System or LaWS is a directed-energy weapon developed by the United States Navy. The weapon was installed on USS Ponce for field testing in 2014.[1][2][3] In December 2014 the United States Navy reported the LaWS system works perfectly, and that the commander of the Ponce is authorized to use the system as a defensive weapon

You do realize that the point of the video is to not show it blow up the boats. If you look again it shows the PRECISION of how accurate they are hitting small little things on the boats
