It seems like maybe one of the planes in the WWII museum in N.O. has a similar history - stuck in the ice somewhere. And they retrieved it much much later and its now on display. Probably not the same one though, I don't think that one was in Alaska.

Lieutenant Baldomero Lopez of the Marine Corps is shown scaling a seawall after landing on Red Beach (September 15). Minutes after this photo was taken, Lopez was killed after covering a live grenade with his body. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

The germans in black uniforms are the SS, right?

and thanks for posting the Korean war images. My grandfather flew on the B29 superfortress during that time he was just a little young for ww2

These are pretty awesome. I had never seen the Maori(NZ Natives) soldiers doing the Haka. Bad arse.

WWII Oswiecim (Auschwitz) is such a reality slap to the face, the Polish government was really wise in keeping it as a monument to never forget how horrible man can become in masses. The B&W photos have been colorized and the colorization process makes it more real.
