Eli Wiesel is in that concentration camp photo. Last face to the right of the middle section of the middle row.

These are very cool pictures. However, this one is wrong...
Notice the national insignia in the F6F Hellcat has the red bar on it. That bar was not used until 1947, which by that time not only was the war over, the Hellcat had also been phased out if front line squadrons and replaced by the F8F Bearcat.

The germans in black uniforms are the SS, right?
For the most part yes. Waffen SS troops wore of course field grey uniforms but the only combat troops of the Waffen SS who wore black were in tank units who wore the generic black panzer uniforms. Specific black SS uniforms were worn by member of the General SS and units like the Leibstandarte in parade dress. The SS and Wehrmacht also used different camouflage patterns. The SS had several patterns, oak leaf, plane tree and pea dot while the Wehrmacht used splinter. All the uniforms are very similar but have subtle design differences, mostly in insignia and facing colors.
Do you have any cool stories about your grandfather? B29 losses were extremely heavy during the war.

Ah, good catch. I went looking for the grayscale version and couldn't tell it was there. Artist's interpretation incorrect?
Here's a Getty Images copy with caption:
On the flight deck of the USS Lexington, American pilot Lt. Alexander Vraciu smiles as he holds up six finger to indicate the number of plane he shot down during the first few minutes of the First Battle of the Philippine Sea, June 19, 1944.

All panzer crewmen, be they from the Heer (regular army) or Waffen SS wore black uniforms.
Here is a uniform top from a Heer Corporal from the Panzer arm.*
And here's a uniform top from a Waffen SS Major fomr the 5th SS panzer division...
* Do not let the presence of the German "Totenkopf" fool you. The SS were not the only one's (or even the first) German soldiers to use this insignia. The "death head" was adopted by the regular army (Heer) panzer arm due to it's ties to the historic Prussian "Death Head" Hussars (cavalry).
Here is an example of the Heer Totenkopf..
And here is the SS Totenkopf...

Unfortunately, no, I was young when he passed and didn't get to see him very much since he lived a decent ways away from me in Gulfport and was in very bad health during my life.
My uncle though is kind of like our family historian and next time I see him I'll ask him and I'm sure he will know more of his service.
