I highly doubt the Deep South rednecks that frequent this board would be open-minded enough to try and understand the mindset of a person living in a commune. Let's just write them off as stupid, smelly, liberal commies and move on.

I suspect you love the popular version of hippies. Hippie communes mostly failed because free love doesn't work over the long term.

FIFY

How uninformed you are.

WSP concerts have more frat dogs and college kids than hippies these days.

I could live like that, but I'd rather live exactly like I do right now.

Dirty hippies are terrible and all that - but it is like a virtual anthropological study - look at all the fat people there weren't in those pictures...

These retards now run the USA and bring James Taylor to sing "You've Got A friend" to make French bo-bo's all better when what the French really needed was "We're really sorry for your loss, what can we do to help you smoke these worthless evil monsters?" the Hippies.

There are a lot of beautiful ideas surrounding these communes, but they are mostly unattainable.

Human nature cannot be overcome to truly have a place of free love and peace. Humans are animals and have animalistic nature.

I think a more hybrid model of commune and modern small town with modern infrastructure is actually possible and I'd love to live in a place like that.

What the frick are you talking about?

Obama is hippy? Republicans who run the Senate and House are hippies?

I don't think you understand what a hippy is

I love when old people talk shite about the younger generation and use hipsters to prove their point At least hipsters have jobs and gentrify neighborhoods

Well, it worked for me. Hippie chicks were so uninhibited, so eager to prove how liberated they were, so … well, so easily duped.

It's not for me but I respect them for making it on their own. They weren't into mainstream society so they checked out. Those guys were worlds apart from the modern aggressive panhandler hippies I have to deal with. I guess the smell would be about the same but it doesn't look like anyone else had to smell them.

Exactly.

They aren't hurting anyone and are making it by themselves without help. Farming for their food, building their lodging, etc.

There are a lot of respectable things about what they do.

Good luck with the Bush and all the other body hair that come with hippies. I'm referring to actual hippies, not spoiled rich kids who can afford to not work and just get stoned all day. The rich kids still maintain their hygiene.
