Yes, fallacious straw man arguments are irrational.
Look, I'm not saying it's right. But are you honestly saying it's irrational for someone worry that a Muslim on their flight could be a terrorist?

Are you sure? Have you spoken to all liberals?
Do you dispute it? It's one central them of being an American liberal, and multiculturalism is the key element.
At the heart of a liberal is the fear of someone being oppressed by the more powerful

I prefer not to walk in unfamiliar neighborhoods at night unless it's a highly trafficked street. And let's be real, the chances of being a victim of a crime at night in a high crime neighborhood is way higher than your chances of being killed by someone speaking Arabic on a plane.
Not all blacks living in the ghetto are gangmembers, but would you want to walk 10 blocks down their street at night? What about walking down an alley in NOLA at night?
I'm not familiar with NOLA so no I would not walk down an alley at night.
In NYC, I'll walk around at night in neighborhoods I know. I've walked around Bed Stuy at night before.

But yeah, it's irrational to assume that someone is a terrorist just because they're speaking Arabic.

quote:And this is the point on which I fundamentally disagree with you. Blanketed prejudice towards Muslims is exactly what radical Muslims want more than anything else. That would be their single greatest recruiting tool and it is the exact reason that they undertake terrorists activities in the first place.
You can believe this all you want, but the blanketed side that will be prejudice towards Muslims would be a safer place where there would be no risk of ever riding on a suicide plane.
Point of clarification so there is no ambiguity here: that's not to say that terrorists activities are "retribution" for Muslim prejudice. Rather, the goal of terrorism is precisely to cause you to feel exactly what it is you are feeling right now (that blanketed, overarching prejudice towards Muslims is appropriate). They know that if they can create enough hate towards Islam in general (not radical Islam, but the blanket distrust of all Muslims you're promoting), then more and more Muslims will converge towards their ideology giving me them more power to enforce it. Sure, you might be very marginally safer when on an aircraft. But you're just trading off a short run threat for a long term one.
Now, none of this is to say that the left's approach of assuming they are all good, minus the .01% currently an active part of terrorists networks, is a good one either. Deluding yourself to believe that there is no danger when it's continually shouting at your face is fundamentally unhealthy and unsustainable, so I definitely don't want them getting their way either.
My only point is that your position, while well intentioned, isn't giving you any of the safety which you suppose it is. Quite the opposite, it encourages both the mentality you hate from the left and the one you fear from Islam

Multiculturalism, perception of equality and how it manifests as political and social power is a key element of American liberalism. If you're talking classical liberalism, it's a totally different story

Muslims are well known for their practice of G-had, Angels have been known to dabble in it too

Well, let's be real. Your chance of having a life threatening altercation goes up exponentially by either of these events. It's so baffling the arguments that looney toon liberals make when you consider they are fighting against basic biology. Human beings, by nature, are all about self preservation. Liberals will try to tell me it's wrong to discriminate, but a series of events in life has happened that has told me that I am automatically in danger when Im around certain types of people. Animals in the wild do this for every single second of their life, yet liberals want humans, which are animals, to downplay this for the sake of not hurting someone's feelings.

I've always hated it. Even when I was a kid, if Sesame Street was brought to us that day by the letter G, I turned that shite off. frick G.

And if we're talking about statistical margins, I'm fairly certain you have a higher probability of dying in a ghetto neighborhood during the middle of the night than simply from being in an airplane with someone who speaks Arabic.
Well, let's be real. Your chance of having a life threatening altercation goes up exponentially by either of these events.
