I don't think anyone is making that assumption. However, if a woman is concerned because a Middle Eastern man is on the phone on a plane and hangs up with a phrase that sounds troublesome to the untrained ear, I don't think she is some KKK-loving racist.

You or I may not have reported it, but it doesn't take much of an imagination to see that the majority of Americans would be uneasy in that situation. That doesn't mean it is right, and I haven't said otherwise, but it is understandable at the least.

Nah, I think it is pretty obtuse to act like this woman was supposed to know it was a casual conversation with a relative.

What if he were speaking Punjabi? Could she even tell the difference? We don't even know if she even heard "...allah." For all we know, she just heard what she thought was terrorist gobbledygook and reported it.

Could most people tell the difference between Arabic and other of the countless languages spoken in that area of the world?

Why would you ever jump to the assumption that someone speaking Arabic is intending to do something dastardly? Making that assumption is stupid.

For some people even getting on a plane is in and of itself enough to make them quite nervous. Add in the fact we're living in a time where there is literally daily reports of terrorist attacks all over the globe and virtually all of these attacks are carried out by Muslims, and now this person is sitting right next to one. It's not hard to see how this can set them off. Is it fair? No. but it's the world we live in.

I speak Rabbles of Germans and I'll say a bit to my friends in person or on the phone. Doubt as a white male I would ever get kicked off a plane for doing so.

Well sure because that's exactly the same thing

I don't know how you get from "inshallah" to "phrase that sounds troublesome"

She was clearly making a lot of assumptions about what might be going on based on the fact that he was Arab and speaking Arabic. And I think it's beyond ridiculous that he was kicked off the flight because of someone's ignorance.

And there it is.

That's asinine. Nobody is responsible for someone else's actions.

If you're white does that make you personally responsible for slavery? If you're in a frat does that make you a rapist?

Yes, which is why the O-T resoundingly supports a bill that mandates reparations funded by private persons PERSONALLY.

Ah yes, "they" did it to "themselves". Because every Arab is guilty for what the 9/11 hijackers did. Priceless.

Well congratulations, but surely you understand there are many people who are tense before a plane takes off. It is probably one of the more popular phobias. Tack on the current geopolitical climate and a ME man ending a phone call with "something something Allah" and I think it is understandable at the very least.

So, he offended the gate agent and accuses everyone who could possibly help him of Islamophobia....so Southwest suggests that walking his righteous arse to Oakland at that point.

I'm okay with that.

Law enforcement officials arrived shortly after Makhzoomi accused the airline employee of anti-Muslim bias, he said. He was brought into the terminal and searched in front of a crowd of onlookers while half a dozen police officers, including one with a dog, stood watch.

And that's why I call the police on every German baker I come across. It's common sense, people.

Every open minded keyboard social justice warrior would shite their pants if they understood the guy saying that at the end of a phone conversation on a plane. Everyone has biases.

It's ignorant. There are several million here in the US who don't do anything to hurt anyone.

This is like the numbnuts who freak out when they see someone lawfully carrying a pistol in his holster, thinking he's just going to "snap" and start offing people.

Yeah obviously he didn't do anything wrong and doesn't deserve to be kicked off, but that doesn't change the original circumstances. This story got out of hand, but I don't believe being reported as suspicious in the first place was the moment it jumped the shark. If you see or hear something suspicious, you should report it. Unfortunately, this guy hit a lot of the markers, but lets not act like he was kicked of for playing snake or some bullshite.

so now that we know he was not a terrorist, clearly the woman and Southwest were wrong. That said, and I have no proof of this, but we all know it to be true anyway: that dude was happy to scare every single person on that plane. He knew what he was doing. I am glad his arse got kicked off.

True....but accusing the Southwest Airlines employee (and the entire country) of anti-Muslim practices and Islamophobia sure didn't help his chances of getting back on the plane.
