Act isn't the same as it was 20 years ago. The scoring has become more relaxed

The ACT is scored on a comparative basis, kids are just infinitely more prepared for the test than they were 20 years ago.

Does he live in Louisiana? Would not he qualify for TOPS with those numbers?

TOPS only covers tuition. Fees (which go up every year) are currently 2K a semester. Fees alone will be over 16k over 8 semesters. And now throw in books and housing.

He is trying that ................but he is going ANYWHERE but Bama.

My daughter is second in her class and scored a 36 on her act. Her mom and I both graduated from LSU but when it came down to scholarships and offers no one could touch Bama. She picked out her dorm in Tuscaloosa last week. We toured Baylor, rice, Tulane, Tcu and LSU. The Bama tour was better than any other and she felt most comfortable there. Athletics be damned it is all about her future and Bama gives her the best opportunity moving forward.

Go to Tech or LSU. He'll get more money from LSU if he can get his ACT to a 30. LSU will also give him an additional scholarship if you or his mother graduated from the main LSU campus. For most people, the focus on the college search should be keeping costs down while obtaining a solid education, and LSU and Tech meet those requirements.

Good to know. Daughter has a high interest in Alabama because of the perception of how much scholarship $ they may offer. School Counselors are also pushing Bama hard. Current GPA is 4.8. ACT last year as a Sophomore was a 30. Taking ACT again in a couple months.

I'm pretty sure they don't do it anymore, and if I'm remembering correctly it was for out of state students. Tiger Legacy Scholorship or something like that I think it was called

Bama no longer waives out of state tuition. Looking at $50K all in per year. Need low 30s to make a dent in that with OOS merit scholarships.

There is still one for in-state students at LSU.
