Go to Tech, it's cheaper and that isn't a "guaranteed" earning degree. If he were doing accounting or certain engineering degrees, I'd say go to LSU as they push you towards and have better relationships with larger and more prestigious companies.
I have degrees from both, FWIW.

What is your alma mater (assuming LSU?), and are you a member of/active in the national and/or local alumni clubs?
A lot of times the alumni associations have scholarships for children of legacies, but you typically have to be an active member.
Also, check into hereditary groups if you qualify (Sons of the American Revolution, SCV, etc.) and join up yourself or your son. Local and state chapters often offer small scholarships that can be added to others.
