I had a professor who couldn't speak enough English to effectively communicate with students. His instructions on projects were vary vague and when you'd ask a question his answer wouldn't make sense and would often be irrelevant to what you asked. A lot of people failed his classes. For one Six Sigma class the whole great was based off of two projects. Nobody had any idea what was going on. I put a bunch of BS data and charts together for my midterm and received a B. I changed the colors and order for the final project and received an A on it.

My very first day of LSU I was talking to a girl that I thought was pretty cute in our class in Lockett Hall. We walked out together and I was thinking this is awesome. Next, I tripped on my own shoe strings and went down the 8-10 steps and got up bleeding like a pig.

So then, its not just a clever name

Econ was so easy. 2030 i think was the class number? Think you ended up with a lot of dummies with that in their curriculum and it got a reputation for being hard.

I had an economic professor who would read the textbook to you in class. The only way to stay awake was to count the number of times he said "uh" during his readings. I liked the professor personally, but his classes were unbearable.

When I taught as an adjunct, I had the highest instructor/professor rating from the students. I learned how to keep classes interesting when I taught Kaplan LSAT courses during law school (the material was fairly tedious).

I was lucky that I've always had great students in my classes. My Dad was convinced me that Mexican cocktail shirts were cool so I wore one to class. One of my students raised her hand and said "Can I get some chips with my hot sauce?" I never wore that stupid shirt again.

I loved teaching bu I could never go full-time because you do less teaching and more writing/research.

This. Wasn't very good at teaching the material at all and seemed to enjoy that he made it as difficult as possible. I did well except for one mistake on one question. I mistakenly used a wrong formula for the centroid of a triangle or something like that at the beginning of a question. Should have been marked wrong for sure. But he carried that one mistake and marked every single line of the solution wrong that used that wrong number (these are like 2 page solutions). Got absolutely no credit for solving it the correct way, just with that wrong number carried through. If it would have happened at the end of the solution, I probably get a B on the test. Instead, since we only have 2 problems per exam, I end up with a D and even though I get As on the other exams, I believe I ended up with a C in the class. All because of a single error on one test.

I didn't have many I hated. Most of the issues, were probably my own issues.

I did have a professor at University of Houston when I went back to get my history credits. I took the large intro history class that had 100+ kids in it and he was a huge jerk. If a kid was not paying attention he would go on a rant.
I then took him for a smaller upper level class and he was cool as could be. Of course all we did was study the books he had written. Had to buy all of them.

At LSU, my first semester I took this Calculus 1 teacher who was German. Couldn't understand him at all. I aced calculus in High school, but struggled in his class. 1st test, class average was a 33. So he ended up adding more tests then stated on the syllabus so we could drop 1, etc. All his tests were tough. Come final time, he has to go to Germany and won't be there for the final. So he gives us a take home final. 2 of the guys in the class paid a tutor to take the answers and then passed them on to me. The tutor couldn't even do all the questions on the test. I got out of that class with a B and was happy.

Soileau and Chenier? Soileau was a total dick in class but actually nice in office hours/outside of class. Chenier was a total bitch. Just a miserable person to be around.

Chenier is definitely the lady I was thinking about, but I don't think Soileau is the guy I was thinking of. My teacher was from the north and I think left LSU to go teach at UVA after. He gave my group an F on a project, and when I went to his office to figure out why, it became clear he didn't really review the material. After we walked through it all, he changed it to a B, and the only reason it wasn't an A is because "moving from an F to and A is too extreme and looks bad."

Soileau and Chenier

I actually thought Chenier was fine (circa 2012) if you didn't show up late to class or texted during class or something. I learned some stuff in that class.

Soileau, I to this fricking day have no idea what that class was about. I took my C and was happy. We had a vLookup or something midterm that was hard as hell. Dude would curve that class like a mofo lmao. He was a dick but outside of class he was helpful and a decent guy.

Tests are supposed to measure whether the students have learned and understand the subject. Unless the student clearly blew off the class, I took it as a personal failure if a student had a C or lower.

Chenier was just mean, I had her back in 2012. She was one of the very few instructors I didn’t like. I can still name many of the ones I loved:

Kerry Sauley and Tommy Karam are both LSU legends
Dottie Vaughn- Business Calc
Charles Isbell-Old Testament studies
Lyman Hunt- Comm Studies, looked like Walter White
Mark Fry- Business Law

i generally didn't like, but had some respect for, the female accounting professors

eta: i had an isds class instructed by some arab/desi guy (ardakani or something? early/mid 2010s) who was an absolute disaster in every aspect of instructing a class. i complained to the dean and got an A in the class.

I had one at UAS, teaching history. Pat Fitzgerald.

Dude was a beast and wouldn't allow any source he disagreed with. If you disagreed with him on any historical subject you were screwed. Discussion was simply for him to make sure you held the company line.

Ours was the author of the textbook. I learned more from him than any other prof in college.

He was left leaning socially, but actually understood econ, and did an awesome job of teaching it. I appreciated the honesty.

Jim Fargason for BLAW was an absolute legend as well. Smart guy, great teacher, and cracked me up how he always pointed at you and said “Chief” if you were a guy or “Sister” if you were a girl when calling on you in class
