to be fair to ole Joe Roges, he doesn't claim to be very intelligent

i know that doesn't really affect the question titling this thread, but just throwing that out there

I thought this was a great little segment by Rubin talking about this movement. Ignore the title as he doesn't really talk much about the intellectual dark web.

Yep. I wasn’t trying to bash him. I like him and he’s entertaining. OP made the claim, not Joe.

I've both stood up and cheered for Mahr as well as chucked remotes at my TVs because of him but one thing is certainly clear, this group could really use levity and a comedic presence. That's one role in this diverse group of characters that has been left open. He could be the Jon Stewart of the IDW

People don't give Rubin and Rogan enough credit. They are definitely smart dudes. They may not be on a level with Eric Weinstein, but they can carry on cogent conversations with all the guys at that table.

Shapiro is incredibly intelligent even if you think he bends toward conspiracy theories at times. The guy graduated high school at 16 and was phi beta kappa at UCLA before going to Harvard law and graduating at the age of 23. You don't do that unless you're bright, bordering on brilliant. He needs his ideas challenged more. He has been on shite like cnn and fox news too often to have his thoughts legitimately tested.

Peterson, Harris, and Weinstein are all incredibly intelligent. I'd say the average IQ at the table is 145 to 150. Maybe 155.

I thought it was odd that for the 10 minutes Maher had with Shapiro, he focused mainly on whether or not Trump colluded with Russia. For all that's going on with the IDW, I would have thought that he'd focus more on that.

What I read thru this thread is like some of the people here really think that these guys are Gods. Really, WTF? I have no problem of debates, which should be done. Deep thinks? Oh, sure. With time on ones hand and with halve a mind, anybody can be a deep thinker.

What does any of this mean?

I think it goes

Rubin-Rogan

Shapiro

Harris-Peterson

Weinstein

At least in terms of development of ideas; I do think age/experience plays a role though.

You seem to be missing the point.

The men at this table are on the cutting edge of conversations that are incredibly lacking in 2018. Most of them have podcasts or web-shows that are all 2+ hours long and in most cases feature discussions on topics and with people the main stream media would not only not be aware of but would think are too boring to draw an audience. And yet, Rogan's podcats likely garner more listens than essentially anything on broadcast TV at this point.

Further, aside from their seriousness and formats, they all value honest, fair minded discussion. Just heard Harris say that one of Weinstein's favorite lines is "bad faith colors everything" or something to that effect. All of these guys, despite being on various points of the political and social spectrum can sit down and not just have a meal together but have truly engaging discussions in which they vehemently disagree with one another...and yet have them cordially and in good faith.

The reason you got jumped on here is because you seemed to assume the very opposite about these men and the people who know who they are. Being interested in what these guys are up to is the very polar opposite of sheep like behavior.

I actually like this post.

It's petty, and short and written in bad faith.

It's exactly the opposite of what every guy at that table is about, so it kind of makes the point of why what they are doing is important today.

So...thanks.

No you goof. What he is-and he just stumbled across it as his own admission-is the perfect antidote to the HOTTAKE, panel discussion, everyone-yell, get-an-8-second-soundbyte in world we live in when it comes to discussion of everything from current events to political ideology today.

He has perfected a platform and process where he squeezes approximately 3 hours of critical listening and moderating incredibly relevant thinkers, influencers or whatever you want to call it and pushing it out to tens of millions of people, multiple times a week.

He owns the most widely disseminated, widely listened to and wildly popular podcast in the history of what is a nascent medium. How he does it is what makes it so popular. He allows liberals-and make no mistake Weinstein, Harris & even Jordan Peterson (by his own admission)are all classical liberals in the political sense-and conservatives the time to flesh out a thoughtful discussion of their ideas and how they apply to our culture and society at large.

Something that the talk shows and in-your-face drive-by media are simply incapable of doing.

In an age where popular discourse has been truncated down to 140 characters or less, this format and these thinkers are being given a medium and platform to appeal to a society that is starving for sophisticated thought that takes time and concentration to hear and consider.

Rogan is leading the Renaissance of thoughtful discourse in current events and political ideology in short. He is not a genius. Far from it. But he's perfected the art of getting the f*ck out of the way, listening critically and driving the conversation of these thinkers so that they can articulate in a way that millions can wrap their minds around and understand.

He's helping them to distill their views and thoughts and make them palatable and then injecting them into a discourse that desperately needs them and it.

He keeps his audience hooked by including a wide variety of folks...scientists, sleep specialists, bowhunters, mycologists, chemists, documentary film-makers, adventure hunters, politicians, comedians, etc.

Before, there was no place for the men at this table and they were cut off from contributing meaningfully. Instead, we now have more and more platforms where ideas and thoughtful dialogue about them can be shared, compared and contrasted without the hyperventilation occurring in the media now.

Did anyone watch the Rubin Report episode the other day? It was a 2-part episode, with the first one including Rubin, Peterson, and Weinstein. Shapiro joined the three of them in the afternoon. It was great. I enjoyed watching Weinstein and Peterson interact.

I just finished both parts. I thought that was freaking awesome.

Lmao, that’s what I like about Rogan. He’s a regular dude for the most part, smart to be sure, but he’s not gonna be a radical thought shaper. He plays a key role in the whole movement and when I say key I mean crucial. He lets the guys talk and get their thoughts across without interruption, and asks questions most of us would ask.
