It was a private levee. It protected a town and some really rich farm land. It breeched two years ago and the breech was not repaired.

LINK

and the Corps of Engineers says it would cost more to repair the breech than the land is worth that the levee protects.

Good

Every levee built in the Midwest just diverts more water passing New Orleans in the spring putting continually growing pressure on our levees. Making the spillway being utilized more often.

He says that's not where the river is supposed to be. Newsflash rivers are wherever they want to be. They change.

All levees suck and should be blown up.

Looks like the river has been trying to cut off that bow for a while now. People are nuts when it comes to fighting nature to this extent

The owners need to hang on to the land - in 25 years it will be a first class lake retreat for upper middle class Chicago residents.

So why should N.O. get levees if others can't?

Nebraska and Iowa are catching on to this with the Missouri River and are building bridges over the floodplains after what happened this past spring. Hwy 2 in Nebraska that connects Lincoln directly to I29 to the east is getting a 1.5 mile bridge after that road stayed underwater for nearly 3 months. I havent heard what Iowa and Missouri are planning for I29, but rumor is that the road is going to get elevated somehow.

Spent a many night in Horseshoe Bar and Grill. Beautiful country on the Shawnee Forest. I have a farm up there.

Why should that matter? It’s horrible no matter the circumstances of the people. I’d say it would be worse if the people weren’t well off.

Wise move. They are predicting floods as bad or worse than last spring for 2020.
