The government is not there to protect the citizens from making stupid decisions. It’s there to protect our freedoms.

It is a slippery slope.

It is.

I just have a better suggestion.

Cheeseburger and fries with water to drink is a fine lunch for a kid.

Cheeseburger and fries and a coke is a fine meal for a kid if you do it once a month. This is just bullshite “feel good” legislation.

Yeah but when these people end up on Medicare/medicaid it is in the best interest of trying to persuade our populace to be healthy because it lowers the cost on taxpayers and also makes for a more productive society boosting the economy.

Again.

My post wasn’t responding to the “legislation” or the intent of it at all.

I was only talking about the actual health aspect of it.

Debate your politics all you want. I was only calling out the moron that thought the cheeseburger was the problem in a meal where half your calories are from Coke.

NOLA likes to be big brother over small restaurants, but if they gave an actual frick about the health of “these people” as you say, they’d only let those people buy healthy stuff at the grocery stores on their Louisiana Purchase cards.

Why can't it be both? Nola doesn't control snap benefits.

I agree with their intentions, I'm all for healthier kids - and adults. But I don't agree that the government should be able to force a business what legal food and drink a business owner must include or exclude.

Because it’s not fricking meaningful to be Karen about children at little restaurants and not be Karen about the 10 liters of Brawndo juice and diabetes kibbles that Louisiana Purchase cards can buy, with no limits whatsoever. It will never be both. Makes no sense.

Lettuce, with no nutritional value, is your counterpoint?

Now do literally all fruit.

Why not make people responsible for their own decisions. How much is Medicare and Medicaid costing us?

More and more every year.
Medicaid spending grew 9.2% to $671.2 billion in 2020
Federal spending on healthcare grew by 36 percent in 2020.

What percentage of that can be attributed to diabetes I dunno but fat people is a real health crisis and is placing an increasing burden on society. If it isn't addressed those people end up in ER's needing legs removed driving up the costs at hospitals.

I'd like to be able to actually use the Medicare that I have paid into for 20 years current 30 years from now when I'm of age.

If I was overweight and ended up with some medical condition I would be responsible for the costs. Therefore I exercise regularly and watch what I eat.

It’s amazing what happens when you hold people responsible for their actions.

But hey here’s is an idea. Why not limit what foods people can purchase using food stamps. If we are truly concerned about people’s health…. BTW: never going to happen.

Agreed. Some people just want to bitch about everything. Its not perfect, but at least its a step in the right direction.

Put me down as someone who thinks black parents are capable of making these decisions themselves rather than needing the government to force them.
