Does the trajectory really arch like that or is that just an optical illusion?

Keep in mind you saw the flash from 711 yards away and like one second later heard the round hit the target.

Also note the ping on the target happens before the sound of rifle firing reached the target. Thus, if you were said target, by the time you heard the shot being fired, you’d already be on the ground.

I don't. I know little about firearms and ammunition.

yes, you have to find the balance between aiming up for distance/ weight of bullet/ the muzzle velocity of bullet all against gravity and weather conditions.

711 yard shot

Nice subtle racism there by these fascists. 710 yards would have been fine for the video but not many middle eastern people own gas stations named 710.

The bullet begins to fall vertically with gravity once it’s fired. If there were no obstructions, on flat ground and in a vacuum, it would take the bullet fired horizontally about the same time to hit the ground as a bullet dropped without any horizontal motion. Depending on the velocity of the bullet and the distance to target, that bullet drop may need to be accounted for by firing at a slightly upward trajectory so that the bullet travels in a parabolic arc and strikes the intended target.

Pretty badass how the bullet bends/warps the air around it.

He couldn't even do it from 712 yards out?

Weak.

I think certain conditions lead to the vapor trail being that visible. Not always going to be that prominent. You can see it from the shooter's perspective too if you don't have a lot of recoil that knocks your scope field of view off the target. But as far as speed, yeah it's moving 2600+ feet per second, but 711 yards is a ways out. Going to take a noticeable amount of time for impact.

If you want to see something cool, check out an Abrams doing a live fire. All main gun rounds are tracer so you can observe each shot. You can tell if the tank is firing HEAT or APFSDS (sabot) based on the arch of the round as it goes down range. The HEAT round has a lower velocity and thus has a normal looking arch when fired. The sabot round has an extremely high velocity and has very little arch as it goes down range.

It arches. For a shot that far on my 7MM PRC the drop would be about 160 inches.

Crazy, I (stupidly apparently) assumed that the bullet is going so fast that it would just go in a straight line, but 711 yards is quite a stretch, so that makes sense.
