It's cold out so I thought this would be interesting to hear your thoughts. Would you willingly put yourself out there is weather 100x worse than what we are going thru and treking up a mountain?

Mt Everest has been summitted countless times, costs lots of $$, is harsh as hell and to top it all off there is a good chance you will die and lay dying as other climbers trek past you.

Your dead body could lay there for years in full view until someone kindly covers it or it is swept into a crevasse.

One of those dying and given up for dead was Beck Weathers. The story of Beck is nothing short of a miracle for his survival, his will to live, his humility and determination to get back to his wife (Peach) and his kids.

The man he has become since then is also remarkable to see. Quite changed from the man who pursued his hobbies at all cost, even to the detriment of his family and how he survived so he could change and give back to his family.

The best video summary of the event i am talking about

One of my bodyguards did it 2 years ago. His nickname is “Everest.”

No, I love adventure and used to be able to endure discomfort and pain in my youth. It never held any appeal to me. Sort of like skydiving.

Every corpse on Mount Everest was once a highly motivated person.

Denali is on my list. Not sure if I’d ever want to do Everest. Might change my mind though

It's a dream of mine... probably one I will never accomplish, but before I die, I will try

K2 is out of the question

Not even about being in fantastic shape. Take so much luck too. Can be almost in-human with perfect health and that oxygen deprivation will kill your arse dead and do massive damage even if you live.

Nope.

I’ve had a big interest in Everest since I was a kid when I read a book about Sir Edmund Hillary. I find it fascinating. Would like to trek to base camp and be a cook or something but do not want to climb the mountain.

I had a book about George Mallory but can’t find it. His story is worth the read.

I'd probably try. I'm less afraid of death and more afraid of getting out alive but experiencing severe frostbite on my face resulting in disfigurement.

Beck upon returning to the US. He lost one hand completely and all the fingers on the other. His nose was also amputated and reconstructed

Beck underwent surgery where skin from his forehead and cartilage from his ears reformed his nose.

Becks hands were destroyed with frostbite but he still managed to return to work as a pathologist.
The backstory of Beck and Peach's marriage before and after the Everest event is also incredibly interesting and they are two very strong people indeed

ETA- Gave up trying to fix 3 pics that were meant to be in the post

There is not a "good chance" you will die. The death rate on Everest is roughly 6% and this is percentage of deaths to total successful summits. The number is infinitely lower when you consider the number of people who failed to summit. It is even lower than that when you factor in some of the large disasters (2015 Avalanche) that resulted in a high numbers of deaths.

I don't know that I would attempt a summit of Everest, but I have a goal for myself to summit Denali by age 35. Started with smaller mountains (Rainier, The Grand) and am working my way up the ladder to attempt Denali in about 5 years.
