I'm actually doing Elbert and Massive this summer. Although those aren't all that impressive I suppose.

Not for me, that's for sure. One NA summit was enough for me.
An ex had the means, had done quite a few other climbs and was looking to do it.
Not sure what stopped her, but I'm happy she didn't attempt it.

Yeah, we got a few pictures from most cameras and then they shut down pretty quick. I taped a Chemical handwarmer to my Olympus stylus tough camera. It has a metal case that's freeze proof, drop proof and water proof. It conducted the heat from the handwamer well and stayed powered up the whole time.

Those are respectable peaks and should be fun. i wish I peak bagged more sometimes but clipping bolts is more my style lately. There are some good stories and nice ascents in here

Ever seen the Documentary 180 South? Yvon Chouinard said it best. [quote]Taking a trip for six months, you get in the rhythm of it. It feels like you can go on forever doing that. Climbing Everest is the ultimate and the opposite of that. Because you get these high-powered plastic surgeons and CEOs, and you know, they pay $80,000 and have Sherpas put the ladders in place and 8,000 feet of fixed ropes and you get to the camp and you don’t even have to lay out your sleeping bag. It’s already laid out with a chocolate mint on the top. The whole purpose of planning something like Everest is to effect some sort of spiritual and physical gain and if you compromise the process, you’re an a-hole when you start out and you’re an a-hole when you get back.”

That's a great documentary btw if you haven't seen it.

Thanks! I will watch it. I love diving into topics and immersing myself in all of the different viewpoints.

You hit exactly on an aspect of it that bothered me. Sandy Pittman had a Sherpa toting her when he needed to be securing ladders. That put everyone behind and led to so much of the aftermath.

She couldn't even pull her own weight. She was a liability. She was there as a bit of a celebrity reporter to help promote the business she was summitting with.

Don't take offense but that's not climbing.

It's hiking. Hiking doesn't take way from anything you've posted but climbing is a different animal.

I've been up to the Tetons snowboarding and haven't done nearly what you have but

I'd rather climb.

She posted 'climbing' Mt Everest; that's why I bring this up.

Carry on.

I wouldn't try to summit. Wouldn't mind going to base camp.

Don't know anything about them besides what I just read but I wouldn't shite on anyone or their accomplishments.

We all started somewhere and were a beginner at first. Even if it's just a pure hike it's an accomplishment not everyone makes or even tried.

Have fun! Make it out to the NW one day and I can put you on some sweet summits.

I really have no interest. I'd rather take a chopper to the top if they offered that, or however far up they fly (base camp?)

I'd be surprised if a helicopter could get close to that summit. shite, that's airliner cruising altitude. Not enough air to grab for the rotors (this claim is #factcheckfree). I do believe they used helicopters to evacuate people after the avalanche a few years ago...saw it in "Sherpa", a pretty good documentary about the avalanche.

You boulder way harder than myself

I'm similar on ropes. All my most proud sends are classic 11's at indian creek

damn, that is awesome.. I knew one somehow made it to Shreveport as well but was unaware of BR having a climbing gym. Looks like a legit gym from the website photos.. glad to see climbing coming along and making progress down there

I'm of the opinion climbing 5.11 on gear is more difficult than summiting everest

LSU REC has a legit boulder wall and some decent pitches too.

I'm proud BTR is getting it together.

I'm 40 and have been cragging since I was 19 so there was nothing in BTR when I graduated LSU in 2000.
