I don't think it really matters what AT&T stands for because their brand and marketing goes with AT*T instead. That's what they want people to know.

I've gotten my B.S. and landed a job and don't know what it stands for. College kids don't need to know wtf it stands for!

Well the SBC/AT&T unified branding began in the early 2000's... so these college kids were, what? 5-9 years old?

I was a teenager back then and I still had to Google. All I remembered was "American Telecommunications and something," and even then I was wrong about the Telecommunications part.

Well I feel good then. You are a little older than me and I knew what it was short for. But then I am unreal smart.

All I'm saying is they've never seen it spelled out anywhere. So unless they went digging into the history of the company, they wouldn't know what it used to stand for.

Yep.

Is this thread an attempt to call college kids nowadays dumb?

If you anglicize it I think "werks' should be 'works'...

and before the OP gramps asks, IT&T was International...

That's how BMW rolls on the American motorcycle t-shirt I have.

But yes, it really should be works. It's like Bayerische Motoren Werke in German if I remember right.

He did not ask WHAT it stood for. His question called for a number in response. You fail.

Larry, you ever have a party line? 2 longs and a short?

When I was little and would go visit my grandparents out in da kuntry they had one.

It tripped me out to pick up the phone only to hear my uncle from next door having phone sex with my cousin down the street.

Good times.

American Telephone and Telegraph, but I wouldn't look down on anybody who wouldn't know what it stands for (I'm 25, but I tend to read Wikipedia a lot).

Those same 30 college kids probably couldn't tell you what the Bell System even was, or that competitors Verizon and the modern AT&T are leftovers from the old Bell System.

I guess I would have been wrong because I thought it stood for Atlantic Telephone and Telegraph.

I never had one, but I feel old for knowing what this was.
