I think BR would have to allow them to be annexed. I'm not sure how that works in LA but you can be damn sure that it won't happen if the BR government has any say so.

We are in the same boat. My house is in BR. The end of our street is SG.

That's right. We annex property pretty regularly, and it needs to be unincorporated and contiguous. We have had a some pretty interesting annexation proposals come to us which basically had to draw a maze of consenting property owners to get to the one who truly wanted annexation.

Cities mostly annex for the tax revenue. There'd be little incentive to annex for Joe Blow, who would now require the full panoply of City services with little return in the form of property tax. I could see a whole neighborhood of high-value homes being enticing though.

They actually got a straight line strip of properties out to them to make them contiguous.

Not true. State law dictates that annexed land must be contiguous with the rest of the city. Usually what they'll do for something like that is annex one street (and all the houses on it) that connects the blob they want to annex to the city so the borders remain contiguous. The city I grew up in annexed about a mile of highway when they built a Super Wal-Mart outside of the city limits to be able to get the Wal-Mart in the city limits for those sweet taxes. The greedy fricks didn't annex the neighborhoods that were on either side of the highway because then the city would have to lay water and sewer lines for them, provide police and fire protection, etc. No, they annexed just the actual paved highway. The real salt in the wound was the utility easement ran along the highway through all those people's front yards, so the city came through and tore up their yards to run the water and sewer lines out to the Wal-Mart. I'm still surprised the mayor or a city councilman or two weren't killed over that.

The state actually changed its law on this in 2012 precisely because cities are run by shady people and they will do shady shite unless you specifically tell them they can't.

What’s the update on St George? Is it happening or not?

Also, is there any scenario in the past or future where LSU could be included in St George? Is there a future possible scenario where Baton Rouge city limits are shrunk down so other new communities similar to St George can be created?
