I agree. Someone said earlier that a new petition couldn't start for 2 years but since the boundaries changed it would be a different effort. So why would something different be hendered by another group's failed effort? Remember when the city of BR annexed some land and then the city said that the petition was not valid anyway bc the boundaries changed and St. George would have to start a new petition with the new boundaries? Well if it was invalid, like they said, then a new valid petition could start now.
I'm not saying I agree one way or the other, I just don't get the two year thing.

This really does need to happen...consolidated form of government may work for small towns/rural areas but BR has outgrown it. The research/studies I've read on consolidated government backs that up. But, if you think that will happen inside the next 50 yrs you are making a naive assumption in my opinion. The SG movement was trying to follow the least path resistance route after getting denied an independent school district as the first and least intrusive option. Your statement about pursuing a total overhaul in the way this city/parish operates is the same thing the SG leadership was told after being unsuccessful with the independent school district...go form your own city and we'll allow you to have your school district. Keep dangling the carrot...all the while never really being sincere about it.

The same group cannot petition for a period of two years, but an entirely different group or at least a group with different leadership could start a new process immediately .. Unless I am reading something wrong, that is what it appears to be .. Otherwise, I am with you in scratching my head on a drop dead, two year period for all efforts ..

Our kids went through great scholars at Woodlawn middle then gifted and/or talented at BRMHS and McKinley. No regrets whatsoever. Our youngest is heading out of state for college in the fall but the others all were successful at LSU. They were all well-prepared for college...no need for private schools. Warren Drake seems to have a solid vision for the future of the entire system...might diminish the incentive to try the new city approach in two years.

I live in downtown BR (obviously way outside of the proposed St. George) and I received one of the flyers at my house saying that the previous resident had signed under my address.

yes .. my old neighbor's two kids went through that program .. one is now going to Rice and the other is at Baylor .. both got scholarships .. the point is, this entire school system isn't total crap .. sure, there are bad schools, bad teachers, and bad eggs in the system ,, we all know that. But, slowly but surely, since the desegregation order has been lifted, we have seen positive improvements in the schools where the neighborhoods and parents have demanded it .. This school system knows what side their bread is buttered on .. SE BR IS their cash cow tax base in sales tax and property tax .. it would have been devastating to lose this part of town for them ... Hopefully, if anything, this is a wake up call to the school board .. It came within 71 signatures of making it on a wide open, winner-take-all ballot ... at that point, anything could happen ..
Here's hoping Drake does what it takes to insure this never happens again ..

mid city isn't bad at all from a crime perspective and will do nothing but improve .. the parts of town where people take pride and stand up to crime are getting it done .. The Shenandoah Crime Prevention District has made a HUGE difference, statistically .. If I am not mistaken, I believe a few areas in mid city have the same thing ..

By the way when I was little NBR was North of Choctaw. Now people call anything North of I-12 NBR.
Let's get the line straight its North of Choctaw.

1980's- people that cared left Baker and rest of the parish people slowly trickled out.
1990's to present- people that cared flocked to the better school systems where parents were involved.
Present - I don't see the flow of middle class families rushing back to live in EBRPSS districts.
If you notice the business that cater to the middle class follow the people.
BR besides the major magnet schools do not have this.
The same thing will happen because history repeats itself. SEBR will become NBR or will the NBR line lower itself over SEBR.

I like mid city. Lived in Beauregard town for awhile. Liked it there. But to say there is no crime in Mid City is just flat false.
